Year 3 Unit of Inquiry

This term in Year 3 our Unit of Inquiry is design based: “Humans are driven to imagine construct and invent.”

To engage the students, we introduced the WeDo Lego. This required them to follow instructions to build certain objects and then use a coding program to make it move in some way. They learnt many skills including moving forwards and backwards, spinning, changing colours and repeating patterns.

The students absolutely loved working in partners to build and code their creations.

During Remote learning the Year 3 students were asked to build an arcade game out of objects around the home such as boxes, cartons, cups and paper. They needed to design a simple, portable game and write instructions on how to play. They were also asked to create signage to entice customers.

On return to school last week, the students turned the classrooms into a giant arcade and were given the opportunity to play each other’s games.

It was  great to see the many different games the students invented and the excitement on their faces when someone chose to play their game.

Well done on a great start to the Term Year 3.
