Principal's Report

Principals Report

It is wonderful hearing the classrooms and playground abuzz with the excited voices of our students. The children have settled back into face to face teaching extremely seamlessly.  The children are very flexible and adaptable regardless of the circumstance which is a credit to all families.

We are still working within a variety of restrictions as outlined in our Schools Operations manual.  Currently we are permitted to attend excursions and school camps  but at this time incursions are not permitted.  Our Ops guide changes regularly depending on the current state of our city and state.

Exposure Sites

The uncertainty of each day is dependent on the COVID numbers and outbreaks.  The number of schools impacted through identified positive cases or close contacts of positive cases continues to grow.

As the number of exposure sites grows, please continue to check these regularly. The coronavirus exposure site map/list can be found via this link:  https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/exposure-sites#what-you-need-to-do

If you do discover that you or other members of your household have visited an exposure site, please follow the health directions carefully and also notify me as soon as possible as DET COVID protocols and confidential reporting processes must be followed under certain circumstances e.g. if a student or staff member has been in close contact with a positive case of COVID-19 and/or has visited a public exposure site.

Cyber Safety Project Parent Presentation

Our students are becoming extremely tech savvy to the point where we have urgently established an Online Parent Cyber Safety evening which will be held on Zoom and we strongly ask all parents to save the date so that they can join this special Cyber Safety Evening.

In partnership with the Cyber Safe Project, Beaumaris North Primary will be hosting a Cyber Safety and Wellbeing live parent Webinar on Thursday 14 October, 2021.  Throughout this workshop the Cyber Safety Project Team will highlight important settings and parental controls that allow your child to navigate online tools independently and safely.

A week later, Trent Ray and Sam Macaulay, co-founders of the Cyber Safety Project will be working with students from Years 3 to 6 on reiterating the importance of being safe online and how to practise being an upstanding Digital Citizen.

We believe it is essential that parents hear the messages related to Cyber Safety before the children.

No Student from Beaumaris North Primary school should be on :

  • TikTok
  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • Pinterest

To use these Apps you must be older than 13 and we have no student older than 13 years of age at our school. Therefore any child using these Apps is doing so illegally and their access should be shut down and the app deleted from the device/devices.

Unfortunately we are fully aware that this is not the case due to the current situation of Covid 19 and our students using these app for the purposes of socialising. However, unfortunately, we need to protect our children’s digital footprints as well as protect them from the negatives that our children can be exposed to when allowing them access to these Apps before the recommended legal age.

We are doing everything we can at Beaumaris North Primary to educate and protect the students online at school.

  • Students cannot access these types of Apps at school due to our firewall protection.
  • We are a registered eSmart School and implement an eSmart Essential Agreement at the start of each year for students to read, fill out and sign.
  • We are making sure our students are learning about the importance of being safe online by implementing the Cyber Safety Project lessons from Prep to Grade 6 in to our weekly curriculum.

It is important we work as a team in order to best educate and protect our students online. Therefore, we strongly recommend you register and attend the upcoming online Cyber Safety Parent Evening on Thursday 14 October at 7.30pm.

Awesome August

Awesome August has now commenced and we do encourage every child and family to participate in this event. Brighton Beach PS and Hampton PS are participating in this event with Beaumaris North PS.  Each school will raise their own funds and our Student Agency Team will be compiling a wish list to submit to our School Council at the conclusion of this very special event.  Please read each Compass Post detailing the information for Awesome August. 15% of all funds raised will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Recent School Excursions

Our Year 1 students enjoyed a very special excursion to Puffing Billy on Monday and our Year 2 students will visit IMAX and the Museum on Tuesday next week.

Friday is our Interschool Athletics event.  This event will be held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve which will be a wonderful experience for all students from years 4-6.  Unfortunately we are not permitted to have parents attend this event due to the current COVID restrictions placed on schools.

Fingers crossed restrictions will be further reduced in coming days enabling us to return even further to COVID normal activities.
