 Cadetships in Logistics

The VTA Logistics Cadetship is a two-year program which has young people aged 18-25 employed fulltime with transport and logistics companies while they study for a Certificate IV in Logistics and a Diploma of Logistics.

Cadets are allocated a mentor within their workplace to guide them through the program and assist with assignments.  They are moved into different areas of the company to give them an understanding of the business, not to mention, the advantage of increasing their skills.  In conjunction with Victoria University (Melbourne metropolitan area) and Gordon TAFE (regional areas), the VTA Logistics Cadetship enables future leaders in Transport and Logistics industry to be developed.  This exciting program provides more opportunities for young men and women to enter the Transport and Logistics industry.

At the completion of the two-year Cadetship Program, cadets graduate with a Certificate IV in Logistics and a Diploma of Logistics that is recognised both nationally and internationally. Past cadets have continued onto studying for a Degree in Logistics, providing even greater opportunities for their future.

Find out more by contacting Leni Carrion, Member Services Coordinator on (03) 9646 8590.  Students might also like to browse Victorian Transport Association website.

Paperless Recruitment…..

I came across this advice below from Interview Skills Coach James Lynch

The paperless office?  We’re still waiting! But paperless recruitment is here now! The NAB is recruiting entry level positions online with no CV and no interview. The process now consists of a cognitive test, and if you’re successful, you’re invited to do an online video interview with three questions. This video is then reviewed by HR and the final talent pool is selected. Applicants are then invited to a group session at an engagement centre, to hear about life at NAB and here they have the opportunity to accept or decline the offer.

The results to date have been very positive; with the quality of hire being increased, attrition rate down and recruitment costs slashed. This has the potential to become the norm for all large organisations in the future.

How do you prepare for this?

For the cognitive test, it’s hard, but online Apps such as Lumosity or free online CEB/SHL practice tests could be of help. With the video interview, it’s basically three x  two minute answers to nail the interview. Set yourself and your environment up to look as though you care. The rule is, you’re selling they’re buying. Practice the “Why” answer, then consider the topics - Team, Conflict, Add value, Goals, Relevant skills, experience and knowledge. Also try to demonstrate good listening, interpersonal and problem solving skills, which are important in the customer service business. Look as though you are motivated and keen and imagine that you are engaging in a real interview with a live person!

Some interesting information for students entering the world of job seeking!!
