WORLD WAR 1 MURAL

LILYDALE HIGH SCHOOL MURAL
Lilydale High School received word at the end of 2014 that we were successful in applying for an Anzac Centenary Community Grant to create a World War 1 Mural and educational space at the school.
Our mural will follow the story of Ralph Goode, the first man in Lilydale to enlist (as a stretcher bearer) who was at the Gallipoli landing, went on to the Western Front and on return to Australia, was instrumental in founding the Lilydale RSL, Lilydale Athletics and the Lilydale Theatre Group.
There will be an interactive element using an app called Aurasma, to engage students and the wider community in Ralph’s story.
A local artist will be working in conjunction with staff and students to create a mural commemorating the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the local community during World War 1.
There will be two opening ceremonies that members of the school community are welcome to attend.
The official Opening Ceremony on Thursday 9 April (during the school holidays) – the Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, The Hon James Merlino will unveil the mural.
The School Opening Ceremony on Friday 17 April – the Mayor of Yarra Ranges will be in attendance.
Other dignitaries and members of the local community have been invited to attend the ceremonies. To RSVP for either or both of the events, please register here or from the school website homepage.
