JUNIOR SCHOOL

YEAR 7 NEWS

It has been yet another busy fortnight for our Year 7 students. There’s been plenty of activity with both the Swimming Sports and Grade 6/Year 7 Sports Day taking place recently. The enthusiasm and spirit shown during both events was fantastic, and already our Year 7 group are bringing plenty of energy to LHS.

Thank you to all parents who attended the morning teas during the week, and also to those who took the opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers during Thursday’s 3 Way Conference day.

The coming fortnight will see our first Common Assessment Tasks due in a range of classes and it will also bring closer our first two camps.

If the first few weeks are any indication, the rest of term will be full of energy and enthusiasm and we will soon be looking back on a successful transition to secondary school as the term ends.

Please remember that you can still contact teachers and coordinators if there is anything you feel they may need to know about your son or daughter.

FORM REPRESENTATIVES

I am really pleased this week to be able to announce our 2015 Year 7 Form Group Representatives. These students were recently recognised at one of our year level assemblies and have been chosen by their teachers through their ability to show leadership and initiative in the early weeks of the year. They will represent their form, and the school, at a number of in-school events and will also be called upon often as young leaders of the cohort.

Well done to all of those who have been selected as representatives for Semester 1.

MONTHLY CERTIFICATES

Throughout the school year, the coordination team will be awarding monthly certificates to students that have been recognised to be showing great effort in their endeavours at the school. This can reflect the level of effort shown in a particular class, in any extra curricular activities and general signs of effort shown towards their schooling. The awards are not linked specifically to academic achievement, but rather to students who are looking to get the most out of their abilities across their subjects and looking to improve themselves in the classroom consistently. Our recipients will be awarded their certificate by one of the school’s principal team and recognised at level assemblies each month.

YEAR 8 CAMP

The Year 8 camp to Anglesea is to allow students to further build on the relationships they have forged with their peers in 2014, and to meet and make friends with other students.  There will be a real emphasis on ‘teamwork’, with students involved in many activities requiring teamwork.  In mixed groups of approximately 25 - 30, students will rotate through a series of activities including:

  • Initiative games
  • Surfing
  • Video/trivia session
  • Swimming
  • Surf Carnival
  • Mountain bike riding
  • High and low ropes
  • Ball games
  • Trampolining

Total cost of the camp is $330.00 which needs to be paid IN FULL by 15 April.

The Confidential Medical report (to plan dietary requirements etc) must be completed and returned with payment to the General Office.  Students cannot attend without completion of this form.
