Library News

In the final month of school, the library is relocating to the Senior Study Center.  We hope you still come and visit us. Thanks to everyone for returning books, keep them coming.  We are in the process of sharing our resources across the other schools, so it’s very likely you will find our new books on their library shelves in the new year!

What do I read ?

I have just started reading “Whisperby Lynette Noni.  It’s science fiction and very interesting.  Subject 684 or “Jane Doe” has been locked away in a secret facility called Lengard and is the subject of a mysterious ‘program’.  684 does not utter a single word.  Her thoughts speak volumes and keep the narrative moving.  Another book I’ve just finished is called “Eight Livesby Susan Hurley.  It was a real page-turner!  A Vietnamese Doctor had discovered a cure for multiple diseases including cancer, however his research assistant found it might not work for everyone.  The ending has a surprising twist.

What do I enjoy reading?

Yes, I love reading all sorts of books and of course, that helps me recommend books to you.  I invest a lot of time reading especially Australian Award winners for different categories.  Australian writers are of a high standard!

What can I recommend?

In 2019 our school has invested a lot of money buying new books.  They are all quality reads and we have ensured there is something new for every level of reader.  When you start at your new school in 2020, remember to check out the library.  I recommend any book by Rick Riordan, Violet Grace, David Burton, Erin Stewart.  There are so many authors to choose from.  If you need help, ask the librarian.

Cross Fire by Malorie Blackman.  Sephy – a Cross – and Callum – a Nought- managed to change all society by ignoring the expectations of being labeled a Nought or Cross person.  Now, Prime Minister Tobey Durbridge – a Nought – is in power, but he’s been framed for murder. He’ll have to rely on a ‘Cross’ to help prove his innocence. It doesn’t take long before someone gets caught in the crossfire.

Wombat, Mudlark & other stories by Helen Milroy.  There are eight short stories in this little book.  Each is a written form of verbal Aboriginal stories told to the author, Helen Milroy by her grandmother and mother.  The characteristics of animals are matched to personality types for example:  Some children are just like the platypus in this story, they thirst for knowledge, searching patiently for answers to solve the problems of life. They are incredible children, always willing to share their knowledge.  Which animal do you identify with?  You’ll have to read to find out.

Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa.  This is the second book in the “Shadow of the Fox” series. Fantasy lovers, you will enjoy this book.   One thousand years ago, a wish was made to the Harbinger of Change and a sword of rage and lightening was forged.  The Godslayer, Kamigoroshi had only one task – to seal away the powerful demon Hakaimono, but now, he has broken free.

Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy.  This story has it all – love, death, betrayal, evil and magic.  This story is a modernisation of the legend of King Arthur.  Ari, a girl, is the reincarnation of Arthur, an immigrant teenager who fights fiercely for what she believes is right, she lives boldly in a rusty spaceship with an adolescent wizard called Merlin!  Together they strive for peace and equality.
