WOW - Wipe Out Waste
Just an update… We have recently put up reminders to turn off the lights next to many of the light switches throughout the school. If you leave a room and you are the last one out, please remember to turn off the lights. This will save our school’s energy a great deal.
Last meeting the W.O.W team had a special guest called Carol Rance. Carrol is from the CSIRO and is helping our group to develop projects within the school. We split our group into three main areas including recycling, energy and biodiversity. We sorted ourselves out evenly into each group. Now, the three groups are planning what their project for this term will be according to their focus topic. This may continue on into next term, or maybe even more.
Here are some interesting sustainability facts:
Large-screen television turned on for 6 hours a day can generate half a tonne of greenhouse gas a year. That's about the same amount as running a fridge for a whole year.
Native grasses save water as they require less watering than lawns.
ycling 10 kilometres each way to work can save you about $1,700 in transport costs and 1,500 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Finally, on Friday 22nd May it will be National Walk To School Day. Please encourage your child to walk to school if possible, to avoid further air pollution entering our atmosphere.
Creative Learning
Dion J. from room 11 has been very creative in developing an Imovie about his favourite Vietnamese Restaurant. This demonstrates that learning does not only have to occur during school hours! Well done Dion!!
There may be a sequel.
Apple Store Visit
On the 18th of May, room 11 went on an excursion to The Apple Store. We had an amazing experience and learnt many new ways to use iMovie. We were greeted by the Apple staff, who then gave us a tour of the shop. We learnt how to use different styles of text and voice projection. After the lesson we were given free Apple merchandise (t-shirts and USB’s). It was a great workshop to be involved in. After our session we walked to the Myer Centre food court and had a delicious lunch! Overall it was very fun and one of the best excursions that we have had so far. We would like to thank Mrs Nesbitt and the Apple Store staff for letting us have such a wonderful time.

日本語 News
Did you know that the seasons in Japan are opposite to in Australia? While we enjoy Autumn, Japan is enjoying their Spring and in particular the very spectacular and beautiful Sakura (Cherry Blossom). The Sakura is the National flower of Japan and begin to bloom during the months of March and April.
They are only in bloom for a short time so people in Japan make the most of this special time by having Hanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing) picnics under the beautiful Sakura trees. The R-2 classes had a great time last week at our very own ‘Hanami Picnic’! We ate our lunch out of traditional Japanese Obento boxes, sat on blue tarps just like people in Japan would and we even had some older students help us have a go at some Japanese games and calligraphy writing. It was great fun!
