Virtual Seed Vault

In Year 11 Biology this week, students had an immersive Virtual Reality experience. As part of  their unit on Asexual reproduction and cloning, the students explored the Norway's Svalbard Global Seed Vault in virtual reality (VR).

Created in response to a recognition of the vulnerability of the world’s genebanks, the Global Seed Vault stores duplicates (backups) of seed samples from the world’s crop collections. Currently, the Vault holds more than 890,000 samples, originating from almost every country in the world.

As they 'walked' the corridors of the global seed storage facility they could stop and listen to researchers and ambassadors for protecting the biodiversity of plants, putting the school's HTC Vive headset to great use!

JMSS Choir participating in the Victorian State School Spectacular

Accompanied by Mrs Rachel Sifris and Mr Sean Smyth, members of the John Monash Chamber Choir attended the first massed choir rehearsal for the Victorian State School Spectacular on Wednesday 25 July, 2018. A lot of fun was had by all.

The annual Victorian State Schools Spectacular provides an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government school students across all year levels (P-12), encouraging development of their creative skills, discipline, perseverance and confidence over months of rehearsals.

The main event is scheduled to be held at Hisense Arena on Saturday, 15 September 2018. Best of luck to our choir members as they continue rehearsals over the coming months!
