State Finals

On Monday 11 September, the Year 9/10 netball team began their State Finals journey. After a fairly exciting bus trip, the girls arrived at their Melbourne accommodation and after unpacking went in search of a good meal. Once all of the girls had indulged themselves in the various cuisines of the Crown food court, and a sneaky few scoops of gelato, it was time to head back to the accommodation and get the sleep they needed for their following big day.

The morning of State Finals, the girls were all up and about at 7, with breakfast at 7:30. With the bus packed and ready to head to the State Netball and Hockey Centre, the girls were dressed and buzzing with excitement. Soon after arriving and registration, the girls warmed up to play their first game against Monivae College. The girls channelled their excitement into this game and despite the wet courts and weather, came out on top. With a short break, the girls took to the court again, this time playing Yarram Secondary College. Once again the girls rallied together and took out the game. After a quick orange segment and lolly break, the girls took to the outside courts again, this time playing Genazzano FCJ College. Playing one of the top teams in undesirable weather conditions, proved to be a tough game for the team. Unfortunately, the girls lost by the slim margin of 2 goals. Next up on the schedule was Ballarat Clarendon College. This game was back and forth between both teams, but luckily the girls pulled through in the second half and won by 5 goals. It was now time for the girls to come up against reigning state champions. Once again when playing a top team, the girls were on the outside courts in typical Melbourne weather. The girls dropped the game by slim margins after a tough fight.

After a light lunch, the girls took to the courts again for their next game against Star of the Sea College. The first half proved to be tough and despite the girls’ rejuvenated strength in the second half, Star of the Sea took out the win. Next up was Ballarat Grammar and after a very two sided game, it ended with a single goal difference with Ballarat claiming the win. For the last two games, the girls were determined to finish on a high note and fortunately, they followed through with this goal. When looking at the scoreboard, Catholic Ladies College were sitting at 4th position and the MAGS team were at 6th. Regardless of this, the girls played to the best of their ability and claimed the win against Catholic Ladies College. After the girls’ much-deserved win, they got ready to play McKinnon Secondary College and after a rough game secured their final win for the day.

All in all the girls won 5 games and dropped 4. The girls’ netball ability, discipline, and sportsmanship shone through on the day and for that, they should be very proud. It was a great day out for all involved and the girls are to be congratulated for their efforts.

Year 6 Circuits

On Thursdsy 6D presented their electric circuit models as part of their Science and Technology program. They had to use copper wire to create a simple circuit including a light globe or a motor and if they were up to the challenge, they could include a switch to turn it on and off. The Year 6 students have worked hard on this project over the last six weeks and they were very excited to demonstrate them to the Year 12 students and special guests who came to visit.
