Year 11 Captains' Report

Love may have been in the air for some of us a few weeks ago, and whilst love may be an open door, you know what else was open....the doors to our many clubs and opportunities!

Auditions for our new School Production, Aida were held last week!  Good luck to all those who tried out, we hope everyone will do their best this year, let’s smash it out!

On top of that, many of our clubs such as our Debate, Technology and Art clubs were open, along with our SRC (Student Representative Council). There is still time to join and they are welcoming as many members as possible.  We would hope that you all try these places out and see what they’re like.  There’s no point in hesitating.

Recently in the SRC, we had the opportunity to meet Rita and Sean from the youth programs at the Yarra Ranges Council. We had the opportunity to learn about programs offered to teenagers within our community and to potentially join them.

Throughout these past few weeks, we have also had a number of centenary competitions and we hope that many people would be interested in entering their written pieces and designs. We wish everyone who participates all their best.

In Year 11,  we have begun to undertake our first SACs and we hope everyone has been studying hard and trying their best. We hope everyone can still enjoy themselves and try not to stress themselves out too much!

Resilience and Gratitude

Gratitude Board

Our gratitude board is back, out the front of Room V05. Make sure you add your reflection on what you’re grateful for.

Home Group Canvases

The Year 12 Home Group canvases are now up on display in the VCE Study Hall.

Year 12 Jumpers

The Year 12 Rugby jumpers arrived last week and look fantastic. These can now be collected from Lowes at the Lilydale Marketplace.

Year 12 Breakfasts

The Year 12 breakfasts have commenced for 2019 and run from 8 am to 8:25 am in the VCE kitchen area on Fridays.

Well done to our dedicated captains for organising the breakfasts. It provides an opportunity for the Year 12’s to enjoy a positive, social and nutritious start to their Friday.

Debate Club

VCE students interested in joining the Debate Club, it is running in Room 27 at lunchtime every Thursday.

High Achiever’s Assembly

Following the 100 Year Assembly on Monday 11 February, our current Year 10 and VCE students attended a High Achievers Assembly to hear from the cohort of 2018 about what it takes to be a high achiever in VCE.

It was great to celebrate our students’ achievements. Thanks to Benjamin Vincent, Rocci Pitasi, James Laven and Damien Armstrong from the 2018 Year 12 cohort for sharing their advice and study tips.

Three Way Conferences

Three way Conferences will be held all day on Tuesday 12 March.  This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and receive detailed feedback on how your child is performing in each subject.

Bookings will open on Compass next week.

IPT and SAC Redemption

All VCE students have Study Periods together on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  Periods 5 and 6 and Friday Period 6.

The aim is to run all SACs, examinations, level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities during this time to minimise class disruption.

If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study. However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.

If a student was absent for SAC, they will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

IPT SAC Schedule

The IPT SAC schedule for Term 1 has been posted on the Year 11 and 12 Google Classrooms.

Students need to read these carefully to ensure there are no SAC clashes. If a student does have a SAC clash, they will need to visit the Senior School Office to complete a SAC clash form. This will provide them with an opportunity to reschedule one of the SACs for the next available timeslot in IPT.

The times for SACs are:

  • Monday SAC Redemption 3 - 4.30 pm
  • Tuesday during IPT, Periods 5 and 6
  • Thursday during IPT, Periods 5 and 6
  • Friday during IPT, Period 6 (one period SAC only).

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class,  there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods or after school.

Towards the end of term,  it is imperative that students make up classes they have missed.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 and 2.

Student Absences

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved.  You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.

VCE students and cars

Some students will acquire a car and licence in 2019.  PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park.

NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car.  A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.

Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.
