"feels like a real school"
In the first edition of the year, I wrote about how excited we were to finally have events take place at Homestead..now I can say it was worth the wait.
Since the last edition school life has been busy.
After two years of lockdowns, Homestead finally feels like a real school. We have had various inter school sports, excursions, Year 10 Lady Northcote transition day, parent information sessions, musical performances and our first athletics day.
It was particularly exciting to see our House Culture come to life with students dressing up in their house colours on Athletics day.
Athletics day was very well attended and it was attended with spirit. Tradition always starts somewhere. Our inaugural athletics day was certainly a great start to Homesteads traditions and was very much a positive milestone for the college.
So our first athletics day-who won?.......Darwin house has taken out the inaugural athletics day!
School Review
Recently we completed our first school review which was an incredibly reflective process. I would like to thank all staff, student and parents who took part in the review. It is only with the support of the whole community that we have been able to have such a successful start to our schools history and as such, a successful school review.
Support at Homestead
I am so proud of the support that Homestead offers our community. Working with State School Relief, thus far we have supported our community by providing 34 pairs of shoes, 93 pairs of socks, 11 CAS calculators, text books for 53 students,15 stationery packs, 5 pairs of boots for VET, 4 backpacks, uniform for 18 students. In addition to State School Relief, Homestead also provide additional financial and material support to students when required.
We are of course always happy to support our community where possible and we also very thankful to families who are able to provide necessary resources. While there is certainly no requirement, the college is always willing to accept support from families who are able to contribute financially. If you are in a position to be able to contribute to the college to assist our community, please contact the college. Thank you in advance.
Staffing
Our team continues to grow. We have since welcomed Nayla Gredelj (student support) and Aimee Thorpe (Legal Studies and Business Management teacher).
Student Voice
At Homestead we value what our students think. Our various levels of student leadership all have avenues to voice their opinions. The college captains have the leadership team, house student leaders have the house leaders and of course we have student representatives on college council.
This week, while I worked from home due to isolation requirements, one of our college captains, Gopal, has taken this to a new level, speaking to staff at morning briefings in my place. I am told he did a better job than I did, and its likely to be true!
Well done Gopal!
