READING NIGHT

Tuesday, 1st March, 2022

    Juniors: 6:30 pm -7:15 pm

   Seniors: 7:30 pm-8:15 pm

Dear Parents,

Our annual ‘Reading Night’ will be held in the Community Room on Tuesday 1st March for both Junior and Seniorparents. This is a very important meeting as we will explain and demonstrate:

  • The importance of reading and developing children’s comprehension.
  • How parents can help with their children’s reading at home.

The workshop part of the evening will be personalised for parents and specifically focused on where your child is at in their current reading development. Teachers will provide parents with information, resources, strategies and prompts that they can draw on to support their child’s nightly reading and learning goals. Foundation parents will also be able to collect their child’s reading satchel and first reader on the night.

Parents will also have the opportunity to say hello to their child’s teacher and visit their learning space. For many parents, particularly those in the Junior school, this may be the first time that parents may have come into our spaces.

As stated above this is a very important meeting. To enable teachers to plan and prepare resources for each workshop we ask parents to indicate via operoo by Friday 25th February if they will or will not be attending on the night.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 1st March and working with you to support your child in their learning.

PLEASE  NOTE: Parents need to be fully vaccinated to attend on the night.

Welcome to Learning Space 3 2022 Seniors!

Inquiry/Religious Education:

We have begun investigating into our concept of Connections exploring ‘How does energy transfer and transform relationships?’ Beginning with heat as a source of energy students have discovered how friction, the Sun, Earth’s interior, chemical reactions and electricity all produce heat.

Gratitude Tree:

During the beginning of term students spent time reflecting on the “little things in life”

that we are grateful for. It is important for us all to pause and take a moment to be grateful for the many things that we at times take for granted

Artists at work!

Check out a sneak preview: Students have been busy showing and practising their artistic

flair. We have used cardboard, paper craft tape and gesso paint to create a base for a soon-to-be uniquely decorated initial letter for our Art Show. Students may ask to find pictures and items to decorate their letter and materials to use. Please feel free to send these into school with your child!

Congratulations Sahej

Congratulations Sahej Saini on receiving your award for catching the most fish at the Year 5 and Year 6 camp!

SPORTS NEWS

FRIDAY SENIOR SPORTS

In preparation for our Summer Inter school Sports to begin, our seniors continued to recap or in the case of Grade 3's be introduced to the sports they will be involved in. This week the focus was t-ball. A great time was had by all and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the senior staff for their support.

Hopefully next week we will begin Grade 5/6 training and Grade ¾ sports rotations for our summer inter school sports. We are hoping that inter school sports may begin later this term.

GRADE 6 BIKE EDUCATION

Grade 6 students will have the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Bike Education unit: Bike Ed Pathway Cycling. This will begin next week and further details can be found on Operoo. Parents will need to give permission and complete a bicycle and helmet safety check and return it to your child’s home group teacher, by the latest Monday 28th February. Students will not be able to participate in Bike Ed if their safety checks have not been handed in.

5.30 – 8.00 pm

Our annual Twilight Sports will be held on Thursday March 10th. As we know this can however be affected by covid restrictions. At this stage we are hoping the evening will go ahead.

Home Group Teachers will inform new students, including Foundation students of the House they belong to. They will also remind other students of their Houses. If you have any queries about Houses please email your Home Group Teacher.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform on the night as they will be running, but we hope that they will wear a t-shirt that is in their house colour and wear other accessories such as hats, scarves… in their house colour.

Teresa House - Blue

MacKillop House – Yellow

Bosco House – Red

Patrick House – Green

Students will be sitting with their houses under their house marquees, supervised by staff. Those that come 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th will be awarded points for their House and we will also be giving out points to the House who supports their competitors the most.

An assembly will be held at the end, to announce the House winners for the house sports award and the house spirit award. The Grade 6 Gift will also be presented to the fastest Grade 6.

We hope to have teacher, parent and toddler races as well!

We ask all parents and family members who attend to be covid safe: social distance and sit in family groups. Please be aware that all spectators who attend will need to be fully vaccinated. Parents will also be asked to sit on the school side of the track across from where students are sitting in their Houses.

ART SMOCKS

This year each student will need their own art smock.  Could you please check that your child has one. Please organise one if they have not got one, or their old one does not fity anymore.  You don't necessarily need a bought one, as an old shirt that fits over their uniform is acceptable.  If you need help providing an art smock please email me at
