Coping with COVID disruptions at MCS

I know that many members of our community have either had COVID or been a close contact of someone who has had it. It impacts families and workplaces in many ways and in schools it is also changing the way our school would normally run. Having said that we have still managed to have our students participate in excursions, representative sport, and cultural activities. We are trying our best to provide opportunities for our students however, there are still some disruptions that we will continue to see as the year progresses.

Our staff have also been sick and have been close contacts, so some classes have had to be collapsed on days where we do not have enough casuals to cover regular classes. Although this has been minimal, it does change the day for some students. If your child has struggled with some of the changes, we encourage you to talk with your child’s teacher or Year Advisor, that way we are able to take this into consideration the next time that it is required. We are fortunate to have a pool of excellent casual teachers who play a significant role in our school, and this has been obvious in the last two years.

Each child at MCS has received 5 additional RAT tests and I encourage families to continue testing when their child starts to display symptoms. If your child did not bring the test home or were away on the day of distribution, please contact the school so we can give your child these tests. Thank you all once again for all of the efforts you have been making informing us of positive tests. Knowing close contacts is helping us manage the situation and allows us to operate as normally as we possibly can.

Western Selection Success

Congratulations to Indy and Ella Vandervelde, Milly Olson, Layne Mills and Phoebe Lyons on their selection in the Western Region Girls Hockey Team. These girls will compete at the end of May in Tamworth. Congratulations to all the girls and we look forward to hearing about their games later this year.

Ayden Penson has also been successful at making it to the PSSA Swimming Championships and will compete in the 50m Breaststroke at Sydney Olympic Park in April. It will be a fabulous opportunity for Ayden to test his ability against other competitors at this world class venue.

Congratulations also go to Makai Milson, Xavier Mostyn, Sonnie Gersbach and Nate Trapman who have made it to the District Schools Team, which will take them one step closer to Western selection. Good luck boys, we are proud of your efforts and sportsmanship on the day.

Orange Regional Conservatorium Visit

On Friday, elective Music students travelled to Orange Regional Conservatorium to see the Australian Army Band perform. Students loved the experience, particularly seeing the amazing solos by some of the musicians.
