Student Reflections

Year 9 ADP Camp

I loved everything about the camp! The ride to Warburton, hike up Mount Donner Buang, sleeping in the tents with my mates and all of the activities we did with the teachers and peers. Playing in the water park too, like 8 year old's with us boys was hilarious to watch and felt so much like, being cousins out on holiday.

I learnt how to be more patient and respectful for others, when they weren’t in the best possible situation. It was good to learn to have respect, because you usually get the same respect from them, after treating them better. I also learnt how to keep pushing myself when I was getting tired.

I could apply my experiences from camp into my day to day life by taking on more challenges and learning to live with more of a “can do” and “I am capable” mindset/attitude. I could also continue to show resilience by persevering even when school, sport, etc gets tough and I start to lose hope.

Year 9 Community Time

On Tuesday 22 February, the Compassionate Kitchen students made the following packed reheat-able meals for staff to purchase:

  • Coconut rice with vegetable curry
  • Plain rice with vegetable and chickpea curry
  • Penne with a napoli/capsicum sauce

The purpose of the sale was to raise money for a charity in the community of their choice.

Year 9 Athlete Development Program

On Friday 4 March, students from 9B ADP class, assisted with the running of the Lilydale District Primary School's Athletics Carnival at Morrison Reserve.

Year 9 Captains Report

The transition from Year 8 to Year 9 has definitely been a big one, but as a whole, we have all adjusted. Starting the year without lockdown has been a relief and it's good to be back on site seeing friends and teachers.

Beginning elective subjects and Community Time was definitely a big change, but it's good to see the school connecting with the community around them.

Throughout this term there's been many opportunities to represent the school such as, the swimming carnival, interschool sports and leadership conferences.

The swimming carnival was a lot of fun for all, with lots of people participating. Both rain and shine were seen throughout the day as students were participating in events. The events included: butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and relay. The overall winners for Year 9 were; Dane Cherry coming first in one event and second in two and Ruby Davis coming first in 3 events. Best of luck to all students competing in the next division.

The Year 9’s as well as the whole school, have been lucky enough to have Mindful Mondays and Wellbeing Wednesdays which is an exciting new program. Each Monday we begin with a simple box breathing exercise to calm ourselves for a relaxed start.  Wednesday begins with a simple gratitude question, so that we can take a moment at the start of our day to reflect on the things in life we are thankful for.

Coming up very soon is the Year 9 camp to Tasmania. The Year 9’s will be leaving on the last Monday of Term 1, which is a great way to end off the first term of the new school year. The Year 9’s are so excited to go out and visit all the wonderful places such as; Cataract Gorge, Mt Wellington and many more.

Term 1 has been a great start to the year. Best luck for the rest of the term to all Year 9’s

Year 10 Captains Report

After a wonderfully warm and relaxing summer holidays, the Year 10’s have settled back into our regular routine at school. So far this year we’ve been involved in a range of activities to further develop necessary skills needed in school, especially as we begin our first VCE and VET subjects and move into more senior positions within the school.

Our Thriving in Community sessions have discussed mindfulness strategies to aid us in focus skills, accompanied by Mindful Monday and Wellbeing Wednesday activities during homeroom.

We also participated in a Study Skills workshop run by Elevate Education, that taught us about goal setting and success heading into the later years of our education.

In regards to extracurricular activities, many students competed in the school swimming carnival winning points for their house teams and showing their incredible talents and persistence.

Rehearsals for the 2022 School Production have also kicked off, with a number of Year 10 students taking part in from, lead characters to ensemble roles to band. These have been great opportunities for us to expand our friendships across the school and master new abilities.
