Exploring portraiture in art

This Term students in Prep – Year 6 have been exploring portraiture in art.

The Preps drew their family and their pets and enjoyed sharing about their work.

Year 1/2 learnt how to combine mixed media drawing and painting tools to create a self portrait wearing a hat.

In Year 3/4 students explored expressing emotions through drawing a variety of facial expressions in the style of Japanese Manga art.

To present their portrait they printed their drawing with oil pastel and used ink to highlight the background.

Year 5/6 were given the broad concept of portraiture in art and were asked to present an image of a human or character in an interesting way. We looked at various styles of art over the years and different processes we have learnt to begin planning our work.

Students have chosen a variety of portraits to work with including film stars, cartoon characters and figures from popular culture.
