Physical Education

Written by Matt Symmons

Our Prep students have been continuing to learn about the expectations and rules associated with Physical Education, they have begun learning about the various types of Fundamental Motor Skills such as running and dodging and developing their techniques. Over the last two weeks the P.E team have begun introducing various tag games learning new tagging games such as ‘Scarecrow Tiggy’ and ‘Sharky Sharky’.

In grades One and Two our students have been working hard on their catching skills. Our students have been using a variety of balls such as tennis balls, gator skin balls, as well as small and large spikey balls to improve their catching skills and techniques. Students have been performing a variety of catching drills such as catching to self, catching with a partner, bouncing, and a minor game of “Chase the catcher”.

Over the last two weeks in grades Three to Six our students have been learning about various track and field events such as shot put, discus and high jump preparation of the 3/4 Athletics day on the 15th of March, and the 5/6 Athletics day in term 2. All students have been working very hard to improve their skills.

Swimming Carnival

A reflection from Nieke De Wet (6C)

On the 4th of March, last week Friday, the swimming team competed against 7 other schools at the Werribee Outdoor Pool.

As swimming Captains, Riley, Max, and I supported our team with pride, I would like to congratulate the swimming team that cheered everyone on and encouraged our team to do their best. I also competed in the swimming with the rest of the team members, I swam freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, the girls relay, the freestyle relay, the mixed relay and the Championship race. Without Miss Evans, Mr Symmons and Mr R we couldn’t have done any better. I would like to congratulate Riley for breaking the record at the Werribee pool for the fastest back stroke in the boys 50 metres. Riley we are all proud and so happy for you and we know you have a bright future. I would like to say thank Miss Evans for helping me, supporting me, staying by my side, and always encouraging me to do my best over the three years I have been here. Miss Evans you are an amazing and strong person and Saltwater is glad to have you as a P.E teacher and a swimming teacher.

Congratulations to all the children who participated in the Point Cook District Swimming Carnival which was held at the Werribee outdoor pool last Friday 4 March. All the children participated with enthusiasm, they displayed excellent sportsmanship, resilience and worked well as a team.

Beach Program

Reflection By Hannah Adametz

During the beach program I learnt about the symbols of the warning signs on the beach, and how to use a boogie board and a nipper board. I learnt how to do CPR and the meaning of DRSABCD. Also, we learnt how to use an EpiPen, and how to wrap an injured foot/ankle. We participated in life saving activities with rescue tubes, ropes, and everyday items.

I am proud of what I did at the beach because I was able to successfully achieve swimming across the pool without stopping to touch the ground. My group also had to tred water for 5 minutes, it was fun. I enjoyed learning about water safety, so I can teach my brother what I learnt next time I go the beach.

I believe I was a risk-taker at the beach because we had to use a nipper board in water that was deeper than what I would usually not bodyboard in. when I was swimming it was hard because I have never swam that far before.

The beach program was super fun.

Reflection By Layla Fakhouri

What I enjoyed at the beach program is playing lots of water games. I learnt how to do CPR and bandage people when they are hurt at the beach program. Yesterday was our last day at the beach and we played lots game on the beach. And I also learnt how to save someone if they are drowning or they are in a big wave or rip. Yesterday was our last day of the beach I had so much fun the beach water was very nice and warm but the pool water was cold.

Reflection By Suhana Arora

The beach program was an influential experience for all the eager students. Combined with fun, tutelage and hands on experience, the beach program taught many lifesaving lessons, including water safety and what to do when someone else is in danger, building our communicative and risk taking skills. The staff and the teachers were impeccably supportive in times of stress, and if you had certain difficulties. Overall, the beach program not only taught, but gave lifelong lessons.
