A NOTE FROM LEADERSHIP
As we head towards the end of Term One, many classes have begun work on their first Unit of Inquiry. Students have been recording their wonderings and discussing the central idea of their Unit. Teachers and students are looking forward to developing new knowledge together and integrating this knowledge with other areas of their learning.
Nightly Reading
One of the best ways for students to improve their reading ability is to practise reading after school. Reading with your child at home and promoting independent reading will help your child in all areas their learning. Research shows the importance of reading on a daily basis in developing students' use and understanding of vocabulary and increasing general knowledge. Reading will be part of students' weekly homework tasks. We encourage all students to read independently and to share reading material with family members.
Athletics Day
Congratulations to all the Year Three and Year Four students for their exemplary behaviour on our recent Athletics day. The day ran smoothly, largely because of the excellent organisation from our PE staff and well coordinated efforts from teachers and students. It was fantastic to see all students being risk-takers and having a go at all the different events. A big thank you to the many parent helpers who assisted throughout the day.
We look forward to the Year 5/6 Athletics Day in term Two.
Road Safety
We would like to remind families about the importance of road safety around our school, especially during drop off and pick up times.
We have had a number of incidents where students have crossed the road in front of moving vehicles. A discussion about road/traffic safety would be a great family conversation to have at home.
Sun Smart
Our school has a 'No Hat, No Play' policy in Terms One and Four. We would like to remind families of the importance of students bringing an appropriate hat to school which can be worn during outside play sessions. We understand that this is often an item of school clothing that can be easily lost. Please ensure that hats are clearly labelled with the student's name. There is usually a large collection of hats in our lost property collection near the front office.
Due to the large amount of lost clothing/school items, we are looking for some parent helpers to assist with the sorting of lost property. If you are interested in volunteering in this area, we welcome expressions of interest at our front office.
Essential Agreements
All classes have been working hard on completing their classroom essential agreements. These will be shared with families via SchoolBox. This year the school is also creating an essential agreement related to expectations in the yard. At our morning assemblies, students have been contributing to the creation of this agreement by providing their own ideas and suggestions . We look forward to sharing this with the Saltwater community in the near future.
Notes
Throughout the year, students may bring home various notes related to incursions, excursions or school events. Please be aware that many of the notes may have a cut-off date for the return of the note to school. Usually this is to assist with the booking of buses, ordering resources and planning of events. The timely return of notes assists the school with the organisation and smooth running of events.
Fundraising
We are looking for expressions of interest for parents to join our School Council fundraising committee. If you think this is something you may be interested in, please contact Michael Nicolaides via our School phone number (83667700) or by emailing: Michael.Nicolaides@education.vic.gov.au
Naplan
Our school has been busy preparing for the upcoming Naplan tests which will take place in Term Two. Next week, students in Years Three, Five and Seven will participate in a coordinated Naplan practise test. This is a statewide test that all schools will participate in. Its purpose is to ensure that the network systems are in place to support all students across the state.
School Photos
Our School photo days will take place on the 24th and 25th of March.
Full academic school uniform is required for these days. This includes black school shoes.
If a students has PE/Dance class on one of these days, they will need to pack their sports uniform separately. The schedule for photo day will be shared on SchoolBox.
