Writing
For Writing this week, students practised using prompts and mentor texts to create their own poems. Students initially found it challenging to pen their ideas into words as they viewed poetry as very challenging. However, with guidance and encouragement, students gained confidence and applied their prior knowledge and creativity to write poems.
Reading
For Reading this week, students learned about the Second person's point of view and how the authors connect with their audience. Additionally, reading fluid groups have begun, and students are enjoying working and learning together with students from other classes. These fluid groups are designed to cater and target student individual learning needs for Reading.
Mathematics
This week in Mathematics, students continued working on their personal goals and the concept of estimation and rounding. In the classroom, students practised estimating number of objects around the classroom and rounding numbers to the nearest 10s, 100s and 1000s. Students are encouraged to work on their Numeracy goals both at school and at home to ensure that they can improve in their learning.
Inquiry
As we continue to explore our first Unit of Inquiry into how 'A nation's story has different perspectives', students have been very passionate and curious about the central idea. There were rich discussions about the past and how society's views and opinions have changed since colonisation. Many students recognised the unfair treatment of Indigenous Australians in the past and how learning about their stories makes us more appreciative and grateful for the freedom we have now. Connections with Indigenous culture have also been linked with areas of Reading and Writing.
ICT
As more and more students begin using their MacBooks in the classroom, it is important that students learn to use their devices responsibly and respectfully. Students had a lesson on 'how to navigate through my MacBook' and practised creating folders to store documents, finding files using finder and unpacking keywords or controls when using a MacBook.
Athletics Day
On Tuesday the 15th of March, students gave it their all to represent and win points for their respective houses. It was fantastic to see so many students participate in various events such as 100meters, 200meters, Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump. It was a long day for everyone, but students enjoyed being out of the classroom and doing something active with their peers. Fantastic effort to all!
Reminders
School photos are happening either on the 24th or 25th of March. Students would have already received their school photo ordering form last week. Please follow the instructions on the form if you wish to purchase any photos.
Kind Regards,
