From the Principal

This has been a very challenging term with many students, staff and families impacted by Covid, with time away from school to recover or isolate.

I would like to thank all the school staff and volunteers for all of their hard work and commitment that was so evident this term. Although we have had our challenges, we have celebrated successes and achievements as the focus on learning remained a priority. Wishing everyone well over the holiday period and stay safe.

Site Improvement Plan

At Para Vista Primary School, we have collaborated in developing our 2022 Site Improvement Plan (SIP) and Preschool Quality Improvement Plan (PQIP). Our goals connect and continue to focus on Reading Improvement.

School Site Improvement goals are:

Goal 1: Increasing the percentage of students achieving SEA in Reading

Challenge of Practice: If we further embed and differentiate our approach to implementing whole class, shared, modelled, collaborative and independent reading we will increase the percentage of students achieving SEA in reading

Goal 2: Increase the number of students achieving in the higher bands in Reading

Challenge of Practice: If we explicitly plan for, teach and assess the use of specific comprehension strategies, and intentionally teach Tier 2 vocabulary, through modelled and guided reading, then we will increase student reading achievement in higher bands

Preschool Quality Improvement Plan-

Goal: To improve children's understanding of phonological awareness

Challenge of Practice - If we implement a consistent, whole site approach through the intentional and explicit teaching of phonological awareness through play then we will improve children's understanding of phonological awareness.

Communication

Classes have been sharing learning through the Edmodo app. To see what your child has been learning you will need to either check the app regularly or turn notifications on. As this is one of our main communication methods it is important that parents look out for notices shared through this app. Important notices are also being sent out via both Edmodo and Email. We now have an option of text message alerts for broadcasting urgent messages.   Sending communication out via email and text requires families to keep us updated with an accurate email address and phone numbers and letting us know if anything changes.

If you have any further suggestions or feedback on school communication please email dl.1048.info@schools.sa.edu.au or Parent.Support483@schools.sa.edu.au. We value input and feedback from our community to support site improvement.

Wishing all families a happy and safe Easter and a relaxing holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.

Regards,

Melissa Mills
