School concert
Bryce has been working hard with all students across the school to prepare for the upcoming school concert on Thursday 24th March. We’re looking forward to another opportunity this term for families to come together and celebrate student achievements in the performing arts. Families are asked to bring a picnic rug, chairs, food and drinks to enjoy the show. The stage will be situated on the running track in the Napier St grounds and we’re crossing our fingers for good weather. In the event the there is rain on the day, the event will be rescheduled to a later date. Further information about what your child needs to wear for the show will be communicated through Compass.
School council elections
We currently have one parent member position available on School Council and nominations close today. With more than one nomination received by the school, a list of candidates with a photo and bio will be sent out next week and voting will commence. I wish to thank parents who have nominated and wish them the best of luck with the upcoming votes. You can stay up to date with the election process through the calendar in Compass.
Harmony day at Fitzroy Primary School – Monday 21st March
We are very excited to be celebrating Harmony Day together this year and preparations are underway for a fantastic day. A special parent’s group will be held in the morning on Napier St, Fitzroy Lions will run a soccer clinic at lunchtime and an African Drumming artist will run workshops for all grades throughout the day. Activities in classrooms will centre around sharing and developing a deeper understanding of cultures from around the world and students will be invited to represent their own cultural background, or a culture of interest. Further information about other planned events will be published on Compass. We are seeking volunteers to help run Harmony Day activities, or to share cultural expertise with our students. If you are interested, please contact the office.
Staffing update
Next week we welcome Rozenn Blouin to our team as the grade 3 French teacher. Rozenn has spent some time in the class to meet the children and is working closely with Nick Smith to familiarise herself with school routines.
We are also in the process of finalising a new School Psychologist to the team. She will be starting with us very soon and working with children who were previously seen by Sebastian. Families will be contacted by the school when sessions are starting.
Incursions and excursions
Now that the restrictions have completely lifted we are busy organising a range of incursions and excursions in the coming weeks. These opportunities link to the school’s inquiry units or specialist programs and providing students with experiences that enhance their learning.
Kitchen Garden and inquiry units about food/health
- Holly’s Backyard Bees incursion (grade 1/2)
- High Rise Community Bakery visit (Grade 3 and 4)
- Urban Microbat incursion (Grade 3 and 4)
Physical Education
- Excursion to the Victorian Tennis Academy (Prep to 6)
- Excursion to Ultra Football in Abbotsford (Grade 4-6)
We take this opportunity to thank parents and carers who have made a generous donation to the school’s Positive Futures Fund. This enables us to continue planning incursions and excursions, ensuring that all students fully participate.
Weekly school tours
Over the last two weeks we have welcomed over ten prospective families to our school. Weekly school tours are held on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am for parents/carers who are considering Fitzroy PS for their child. We are now taking enrolments for 2023 Foundation year and it’s exciting to see that we already have a few names on the list!
Car park safety
Parents and carers are reminded to supervise children at all times around the George St car park before and after school. Staff are asked not to use the car park between 8:45 – 9am and 3:30 – 3:45pm.
