I was very grateful to have Miss White in the Performing Arts room for two weeks to continue delivering my Performing Arts program. Miss White has a Bachelor in Contemporary Music and a love of the arts. I was so happy to hear that our students displayed respect, resilience and responsibility during their lessons.

Our Foundation students were given a tour around the Performing Arts room  (there is so much to see and touch) and discussed all of the wonderful things that they will encounter during our lessons together. They enjoyed learning how to sing their name using simple music intervals and explored our different percussion instruments. They sang well known songs in unison with a focus on keeping a steady beat...with their hands and feet!

The Year One and Two students completed their 'Performing Arts Y-Charts' and discussed the importance of Harmony Day. They showed resilience when learning the song, 'Down Under in Australia' highlighting the beauty of our multicultural country. They revisited some of their songs and dances from our 2021 Production and are beginning to work on creating a collaborative dance sequence.

Similarly, the Year Three and Four students discussed the "National Day Against Bullying” which is on Friday 18th March. They listened to and joined in with the song, 'We Are Done'. They worked with a partner on a 'Name Game' task and then prepared and presented a short creative presentation. They focussed on using a clear and loud voice and establishing eye contact with their audience.

The Year Five and Six students enjoyed watching 'The Wizard of Oz' 2021 movie together. They then prepared a 'Movie Review' identifying favourite characters, plots twists and offering directing tips for improving the show. This was a great way to remind the students of all the available parts in our show and encourage them to start planning their auditions (which will be in Week 7). They explored some elements of drama such as plot, tension, place, time, character, genre and belief and connected these with scenes from the movie.

Audition forms for 'The Wizard of Oz' 2022 will be sent home with all 5/6 students next week.

I can't wait to get back into the Performing Arts room next week and re-connect with our fabulous USPS students. I have missed them very much.

Thank you to everyone who applied to participate in this years VSSS (Victorian State Schools Spectacular). We had more applications than places and have had to create a reserves list. We will notify successful applicants next Tuesday. Unfortunately, students who fail to turn up to our in-school rehearsals (unless officially absent from school) will have their position given to one of our reserves. Mrs Haines and I will remind students every week. Please note these important dates.

DANCE: 10th March, 7th April, 2nd June, 22nd July

CHOIR: 20th July, 17th August
