Dear Parents,

We hope that the long weekend offered you and your families an opportunity to stop and recharge between what has been an eventful term already. The student free day before the long weekend gave our staff an opportunity to strengthen our expertise in Writing curriculum and teaching. As part of our 4-year strategic plan, our school has set a goal to improve student learning outcomes in Writing and extend more students to be considered above the expected standard. To help us reach this goal, we have engaged Carmel Small who is an internationally recognised expert in the field with experience as a Teacher, Principal, and literacy curriculum writer for the South Australian Department of education. Furthermore, she is a certified trainer of teaching for gifted education. Carmel will continue to work with our staff throughout the year. We look forward to seeing the impact of this work through our student’s progress and engagement in writing. Further to this all of Administration Team and Education Support staff undertook Advanced First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Asthma training as we strive to enhance the health and safety of everyone within our community.

ILPs and Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thank you to those families who have already booked in for the Parent-Teacher Conferences. We remind you that this year, we are asking all students to attend the conference with their parent/guardian. If you have not made a booking yet please do so through Compass. Students Individual Learning Plans will become available to families on Friday 31/03/2023 in preparation for the parent conferences.

Harmony Day Celebrations

Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to this nation and enrich it. Albanvale Primary School will be celebrating Harmony Day this year on Monday 20th March. On this day our students will celebrate Harmony Day by being involved in rotational activities from various cultures. Students will participate in different activities such as: badge making, henna art, traditional dances and bracelet making. Students are encouraged to wear an orange accessory on this day to acknowledge the celebration of Harmony Day and will culminate in a special Orange Parade at our School Assembly which will commence at 2:45pm.

Sports Awareness Program

The Sports Awareness Program will be held on the last week of school. This program enables teachers to meet in teams to plan teaching and learning for next term. Professional Practice days provide an opportunity for teachers to engage in professional dialogue and ensure consistency and best practice across all classrooms. Further planning and discussion about student progress is undertaken in teams each week.

All students will be involved in the Sports Awareness Program, whereby they are engaged in various activities provided by our enrichment team. The enrichment team tries to provide a diverse curriculum where the students are involved in varied and fun learning experiences. This term students will participate in activities at school provided by an external provider.

End of Term

Thursday 6th April is the last day of Term 1 and students will be finishing at 2.30pm. School will resume after the school holidays on Wednesday 26th of April.
