Year 8 Tennis - 6/3

On Monday 6 March, we headed to Ringwood Tennis Club to take on the might of the Yarra Division for Year 8 Interschool tennis.

We hit the court early getting in a lengthy warm up ready for Round 1. Both our teams were confident and took home early wins.

There was no time to rest as Round 2 started straight away. Our LHS A team were once again very strong and took home the win. Our B team had a tougher outing needing to win the match against Emerald A, they fell just short missing out by one game.

Round 3 was upon us and we could smell the finals. Our A team had a bye, so they were straight through to the GRAND FINAL!  B team had a convincing win against Emerald B, taking all six sets.

It was then time for the Grand Final.... LHS A vs Emerald A. It was all tied up after the singles matches and it came down to the doubles. Once again, it was tied with both schools winning one match each. It then came down to TOTAL GAMES and we pipped Emerald by 2!

Great effort by the team on and off the court!

Junior Volleyball - 6/3

On Monday 6 March, 3 boys and 2 girls teams travelled to Dandenong Stadium to compete in the Interschool Volleyball. It was a great day with all teams competing well against the other schools.

The teams that I competed against included; Monbulk, Lilydale Heights, Emerald and Yarra Hills.

One of the boys teams played well throughout the Round Robin making the final against Monbulk, but unfortunately, Monbulk beat the boys to make it to the next round.

All teams had great fun being out for the day.

Jasper Waite - Year 8

It was Monday 6 March and the bus was packed with 5 teams of Volleyballers.  We arrived at Dandenong full of enthusiasm and ready for our first game against Monbulk, a Volleyball school, we get crushed and our enthusiasm wanes.

Game two, a WIN, ‘yes we can do this.’  Then game three, Monbulk, if you remember a Volleyball school. Yup we lost. Then 4 wins in a row to finish off the day.   Not only that, but we can also see our skills improve the more we play.

3rd overall, a day of fun and our skills improved immensely.  We supported each other through the day's play, and we will be back next year.

Thanks to Mr Stuart for helping coach the girls' teams on the day.

After a slow start and scores tied 2-2 at the end of the first innings, LHS put on a whopping 8 runs in the second innings to lead us to a 14-2 win and progress to EMR!

Congratulationsboys!

Intermediate Tennis - 14/3

On Tuesday 14 March, LHS competed in Intermediate Tennis. There was a change of venue and we were excited to be playing at home, on the hallowed courts of Lilydale High. Unfortunately, the boy's competition was cancelled due to the other schools not being able to field a team.

The scene was set for the girl's competition and with only one other entrant, we were excited to the match underway.

First up were the singles, and by the end of the four matches we were tied two matches all and it came down to the doubles.  The first match was hotly contested with our girls being pipped at the post. It then came down to the last match of the day and we needed the win to give ourselves the chance to take home the pennant.

There was some fantastic Tennis on display with the match getting to four all, before Upper Yarra went to the next level, taking home the victory.

A gallant effort by our girls. Well done to all as the behaviour, teamwork and effort was at a high standard.

Volleyball Report:

On Tuesday 28 February, the VCE students competed at the Senior Volleyball tournament in Dandenong. There were many Year 11 and 12 students eager to participate and try out for the teams.  In the end, enough students from our school attended that we made up almost half the teams participating on the day!

We had three teams in the girls tournament. In Pool A, Lilydale 1 had 3 wins out of 4, unfortunately losing to Monbulk in the final despite an amazing effort by all.  In Pool B, both Lilydale 2 and 3 won 2 out of their 3 games and had to battle it out in the final against each other.  It was Lilydale 3 who won the intense match!

After many keen applicants, we had 4 teams enter the boys competition.  In Pool A we saw Lilydale 3 winning 2 out of their 4 games, whilst Lilydale 1 finished undefeated in their pool and unfortunately, going on to lose the grand final in a nail-biter to Monbulk. In pool B, we saw Lilydale 2 winning a commendable 3 out of 4 games, whilst Lilydale 4 won 2 out of their 4 games for the day. All teams showed terrific sportsmanship and support for each other.

Overall, it was a really fun day filled with teamwork and determination. Special thanks to Mr Neumann for organising an awesome tournament for all, and to Mr Bourne and Mr Stuart for taking us on the day.
