Autism Awareness

On Tuesday 28th March Marlborough Primary School will celebrate Autism Awareness, through the Hoodie Up campaign. Students are asked to wear a hoodie as well as free dress to show their understanding, acceptance and support of the autistic community.

April is Autism awareness month and we ask the Marlborough community to wear hoodies on the 28th March because some Autistic people experience sensory sensitivities and can become overloaded by stimuli in their environment. Wearing their hoodie up means they can block out bright lights and busy environments which helps calm them.

There will be an assembly at 9am on this day, two students will talk about their experiences with autism. We hope you will be there to support the community.

Harmony Day

On the 21st March we celebrated diversity and inclusion as a school. Students were encouraged to wear orange to show how we believe everyone belongs. There are a few displays up around the school celebrating our diversity. Below are some photos from our Harmony Day celebration.

Ride2School Day

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel.

Over the past 40 years the number of children who are physically active everyday has significantly dropped. In the 1970s, eight out of ten students rode or walked to school but today that number has dropped to just two out of ten.

Students who ride or walk to school contribute to their minimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. They are also more focused and ready to learn compared to those who are driven.

On Friday 24th of March we would love to see as many students as possible ride their bike or scooter to school. If you cannot ride, then walk to school. If you live too far away to walk  you can get dropped off closer to school and walk part of the way.

On the day we are hosting a 'Decorate your Helmet' parade. So we can't wait to  see what wonderful ideas you can come up with. The Junior School council will be collecting a gold coin donation to raise money for new sports equipment to encourage Marlborough Students to be physically active at school.

Congratulations to Sienna 5/6B who competed in Divisional Swimming last week. Sienna swam her personal best and placed 5th in the 50m Freestyle event. Sienna was the only competitor in under 11 race who didn’t compete in a club. She is very proud of her achievement.

Well done Sienna!
