Parents and Friends Community News

Strap in – this is a long one as there’s a lot to tell you!!!

We have some big PFC news, happy and sad.  My PFC co-lead, sidekick, sage adviser, best buddy, my Donald (it’s an in-joke) and all-round legend Emma Oliver (O’Donohue) has, after two big years delivering some epic events, hung up her spreadsheet, put the BBQ tongs back in the drawer, dropped the mic and taken her final bow as head of the PFC.

For those of you who know Emma (mum to Clementine in G3 and Henry from G6 last year) there is no such thing as a quiet life as she moves into a new role as Head of Global Recruitment at ANZ.  Good luck Em!

I personally want to thank Emma for all she has done for the school and the community these last years.  As a volunteer at many PFC events before finally being ‘persuaded’ to co-lead the PFC with me. Emma always made the hard stuff easy and the impossible possible.  Her enthusiasm, quick wit and endless humour kept us going during the late nights discussing sausage numbers, sorting out class lists, counting raffle tickets, choosing bands for gigs, negotiating venues or explaining her budget spreadsheets to me (her favourite).   And let’s not forget her ability to make excellent jelly shots!!

Thank you Emma on behalf of the school community for all you have done and from me personally, thanks mate – I have a friend for life!

Now for the happy.  I am thrilled to introduce Kirstie Smyth – mum to Jack in G3 – as the new co-lead of the PFC.   Thank you so much for joining the ranks Kirstie and for hitting the ground running.  Well, sprinting actually.  Kirstie has already delivered the Family Fun Night, has the Mother’s Day Lunch well underway and is now on to Bogan Bingo!  It’s going to be a brilliant year.  More to come from Kirstie, so watch this space!

Family Fun Night – What a belter of a night

What a great night and turn out.  Thank you everyone.  This was the first time in many years we all came together as a community on the school grounds to just chillax and mingle.  The kids had a ball while parents relaxed and nattered with friends old and new.  This will definitely be a permanent annual fixture in the PFC events calendar.  A huge thanks to everyone who helped to set up, cook and serve sausages, run the bar and dish out icy poles.

EASTER RAFFLE

We will be running our annual Easter Raffle and Easter Egg guessing comp in early April and are seeking donations to fill some Easter hampers to add to the prizes.  If you are able to donate a small Easter chocolate or other Easter gift we will have baskets placed in the Community Hub (next to the gym) on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st March.  A cohort of G6 students will be running the egg guessing comp from Monday 3 April to 6 April from 8.30-9.00am outside Grounds Café.  All guesses a gold coin donation.  The raffle and egg guessing winners will be drawn at Assembly on 6 April.

MOTHER’S DAY LUNCH - SAVE THE DATE

Get your glad rags on and join us on Friday 5th May from 12-4pm at Quat Quatta in Ripponlea for the annual Mother’s Day Fundraising Lunch with the after party from 4.15pm onwards at Bellucci’s Bar and Restaurant in Martin Street, Brighton.  Tickets will go on sale on QKR very soon and priced at $135 per person.  This is an all- inclusive with a two course sit down lunch with award winning food, all your drinks (soft drinks, sparkling, wine, coffee and teas), brilliant entertainment from Top Dog artists and our usual silent auction and raffle.  It’s going to be a lovely day out so please do join us.  Yes, there will be buses.  More info to follow on compass.

BOOK DRIVE – Many thanks to everyone for dropping off your second-hand books last week.  The final count is not in but it was well into the hundreds.  Our classroom libraries will be well stocked for our students.
