First Aid Training for Staff and Students

Last week our teachers and education support staff completed their annual first aid, asthma, and anaphylaxis training

It is a comprehensive course which ensures that staff have the skills and knowledge, and most importantly, the confidence to provide first aid to anyone who is suffering an injury or illness. This includes the management of anaphylaxis and asthma as well. This is a part of the Department of Education and Training guidelines to ensure that we are competent to manage situations as they arise.

This year we will also be involved in the First Aid in Schools Program at Brighton Primary. This free program teaches primary school students the importance of First Aid and what to do in an event of an emergency. Focusing on the DRSABCD,  students are taken step by step through practical skills that empowers them to act. Sessions are fun, interactive, and hands-on. The knowledge and skills that children develop as being part of this program contributes to building a more confident and resilient community when dealing with situations as they arise. We have had an incredible amount of positive feedback from students, parents and staff regarding this. We have heard that it has been used in home situations where students have been able to use this knowledge to help family members, even calling an ambulance for their family member which is fantastic! Such an important life skill to be developed at an early age. We are delighted to be able to offer this program to our students again this year.
