School Council Report

This is the School Council report for the meeting held Monday 24th October.

School Council recently got together for the first meeting of the final term for 2022 – and a very productive meeting it was!

School Review

A School Review was recently completed for FPS, and we wanted to share some key insights from the process. Happily, FPS students are performing well academically compared to similar schools (based on comparative NAPLAN results). As a result of analysing the school’s data, a greater emphasis will be placed on numeracy in 2023.

Pleasingly, the School Review Panel praised the school for our work on sustainability, and learning about indigenous cultures.

Wellbeing

In other positive news, the Department of Education are putting significant resources into wellbeing at FPS, which will come as welcome news to many after the past few years. Funds will be provided to employ a professional resource to engage in mental health work with the students on a part-time basis, through the Mental Health in Primary Schools initiative.

Buildings & Grounds

The Building and Grounds Committee have been busy and have recently finished installing the new water tanks. Students (and staff) can now flush ‘guilt-free’ as the toilets will be using grey water from the tanks. Many thanks to Damien Cullen, Andrew Vance and Di Edwards for organising this initiative.

Recent work on the school fence has now been completed – around the school perimeter as well as a divider that has been installed by the garden beds by the Year 1 portables. This divider will provide plant protection from inquisitive children.

Social Club

In Social Club news, Council has approved the end of year picnic on Thursday the 8th of December.  Fingers crossed La Niña won’t ruin it for us!
