P to the E with Leigh

Well I thought the weather would improve but most this term has been dodging the rain!

The Foundation and the1/2 classes have started to play football or at least learning about kicking the ball to each other with some accuracy. I am always amazed with some 6 year old children who have actually mastered kicking a drop punt with accuracy and style. Of course they're all learning these skills and it takes time and maturity to gain balance and control.

The 3/4 classes have add Aus Kick incursions with the children learning the fundamentals of the game. Drop of the ball, handball and kicking correctly. One of the most difficult things to teach is how to kick and hand pass a football but once you get it, there is so much flow and enjoyment. We have also played basketball and cricket and some small games in teams.

The 5/6 classes have been playing inter-school sport and will finish of this term with AFL and some favourite fun games towards the end of the term. There’s always lots of energy from the 5/6 children as some of them know and feel it is there last time at primary school. The connection in your formative years is something that all the children have fond memories I believe and I think it’s the fact that you have a grade that you are with all year and that community in a primary school is very important, of course it changes at secondary school and the journey becomes about being in a bigger community with more choice and control.

I am looking forward to next year introducing Bike Education, developing more programs and making the connection to community stronger. On reflection I enjoy knowing all the children in a school as the new children enter and the older children leave it never gets boring and it’s the reason I like teaching so much!!
