All Star Junior Girls Regional Finals

On Monday 7th November, 8 students from Year 3 and 4 competed in the All Star Girls Regional Finals at Waverley Stadium. A huge thank-you to Michelle T and David H for coaching and scoring on the day, a massive ask but I knew you were up for the challenge.

World Cup Soccer-decorate your classroom challenge!

Due to the huge love of Soccer at St James, our classrooms will be taking part in the Football Australia decorate your classrooms competition. So if you have anything green and gold that you would like to part with for a few weeks, please pack it up and send it in with your students!

St James Swimming Program

Please see below the Operoo sent with all the necessary information:

The St James Swimming Program will be held from Monday 14th November to Wednesday 23rd November.  It is expected that all children participate in the Swimming Program, as it is recognised as an important part of their personal development and their attainment of life skills.

Teachers will try to ensure that the level of the program will suit the child's individual needs.  If a child has to miss an individual session, an email will be required stating the reason for their absence.  If a child cannot participate in the program at all, it will be necessary to provide a doctor's certificate.

The program will be held at Sandringham Leisure Centre - 150 Tulip Street Cheltenham - Phone: (03) 9584 3777,  also where the St James Swimming Carnival will be held on Thursday 24th November.

Further information about the Swimming Carnival will be forwarded in due course.

The Bus Schedule and lesson timetable is as follows:

During the swimming program, appetites usually increase and the younger children often get very tired, as there is a great deal of energy expended. Particularly at this time, it is very important that all children get to bed early. House coloured caps are compulsory for the actual swimming carnival and are available for purchase from the office @ $8:00 each. They are not required for the lead up swimming program, but it is recommended that students wear a swimming cap at all times when in the pool. Swimming goggles are also a necessity for swimming lessons. Over the two week program, all students wear their Sports Uniform for ease of changing. Please ensure your child wears their bathers under their sports uniform, as this ensures a fast start to our lessons. Whilst children must wear runners to school, they also need to bring thongs to change into before they depart on the bus. All clothing & possessions are to be clearly labelled i.e., towels, bathers, sports uniforms, underwear and thongs. Please ensure that all swimming belongings are in a bag other than the school bag and that this bag has your child's name clearly visible.

All buses depart at 12.30pm. As in previous years, students are permitted to leave the carnival with their parents. Please ensure you have indicated below if your child will NOT be returning to school so we can book the correct amount of buses. This Operoo will only be accepting responses until Thursday 17th November in order to organise this.

Please ensure your child brings the following:

  • bathers to be worn under their sport uniform
  • house coloured cap (these can be purchased at the office for $8) goggles and towel
  • plenty of food and snacks
  • house coloured t-shirt and/ribbons. No streamers PLEASE

As always a carnival like this is not possible without the help of our parents. If you have a current WWCC please can I ask that you volunteer in some capacity. We need marshalls, place judges, score keepers and first aid. We respectfully ask if you are not volunteering that you stay in the balcony area closest to the entrance in order to help alleviate too many people on the pool deck. There is also to be NO photography of students other than your own on this day.

Senior students will have the opportunity to compete in four 25m races and 50m races plus a relay.  No times will be kept from this day.  We will be holding swimming trials in the first week of February at GESAC.

Junior students will focus on fun, water familiarisation and relays.

Thank-you and looking forward to a fabulous day.
