Relieving Deputy Principal's

Report

Mrs Emily Chatterton

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a busy and productive fortnight at Oak Flats Public School - the highlight being our wonderful Grandparent’s Day celebrations! It was such privilege to welcome our grandparents back into our school for the first time since 2019. There was a lovely atmosphere in our classrooms from P-6 and our students were so proud to perform at the very special assembly. These events never fail in reminding us how lucky we are to have such a supportive community.

Our Challenge2bfit also continues to be a huge hit with students each Friday, in fact it’s so much fun I think they forget it’s also a workout!

STAGE 2 EXCURSION

Stage 2 students had a wonderful time on our excursion with Ranger Jamie Tours to Stanwell Park Beach Reserve on Monday. We were especially lucky as the weather was glorious and the rain held out just until we boarded the bus back to school! Students had a blast (literally) exploring forces through hands on experiments and activities including exploding soda water, racing billy carts, testing rockets and making ooblek (a slime that can be solid or liquid). We know this is an experience they will remember for years to come!

OFPS MERIT SYSTEM

With our term and the school year rapidly coming to an end, many students are working towards achieving Gold Level. Below is an overview of our school merit system, awards and criteria for achieving gold.

Oak Flats Public School implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework. Our four core values are:

Safe                                 - I control my words and actions

Respectful                   - I follow instructions the first time

                                         - I contribute politely in class activities

Responsible               - I am prepared for learning: right tools, right attitude

Active Learner           - I focus on completing quality work efficiently

Children who are observed demonstrating PBL values in class can receive White Cards. Teachers can choose to record white cards in different ways depending on the grade level which can include on a stamp chart, digitally or by giving out white cards to be collected in envelopes.

- Bronze Level = 5 White Cards

- Silver Level = 15 White Cards

- Gold Level = 30 White Cards

Children can receive Oakie Doakies, fast and frequent awards for positive behaviour in the classroom and playground that go into a draw at the fortnightly Assembly. Oakie Doakies are stored in a giant thermometer in the school hall. Throughout the year there are whole school rewards when the Oakie Doakies fill different levels of the thermometer.

Four Merit Awards are handed out per class at each fortnight Assembly.

TELL THEM FROM ME PARENT SURVEY

Thank you to our parents and carers who have taken the time to complete the Tell Them From Me survey. The parent survey provides us with parent and carer perspectives about the engagement and wellbeing of our students. This information is very valuable and is used to identify strengths and successes, as well as areas to target for improvement. of our students. The survey closes on Friday, 18 November. To access the survey, please go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/ofps22.

ATTENDANCE

On occasion, children may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

  • being sick or having an infectious disease
  • having an unavoidable medical appointment
  • being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • exceptional or urgent family circumstances.

Please remember that following an absence, parents and carers are required to explain the absence within 7 days of the first day of a student’s absence. Absences can be explained via email, phone, replying to SMS notifications, or via a letter on return to school. After three days absence, a medical certificate is required.

Have a wonderful fortnight!

Warm Regards

Emily Chatterton
