Faculty News
In August this year, our students competed in the Australian Mathematics Competition. The competition demonstrates how Mathematics is both important and relevant in our daily lives. We have had fantastic results with 5 High Distinctions and 48 Distinctions. Well done to all the students for participating in this prestigious competition that reaches a global audience and has over 250,000 entries each year.
This semester our junior enhancement students from Years 7 and 8 were working on Quadratic Graphs and had the opportunity to work on the Desmos-Graphing calculator program to investigate parabolas and their transformations. This was an investigative and problem-solving task that enabled them to experience things via inquiry. The junior enhancement students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experience the content they would have otherwise learned in Year 9.
The highlight of this semester was the subject selection process. Year 12 students gave up their time to mentor the junior students to answer any questions about the senior mathematics subjects. Teachers spent time mentoring our students to make sure they understand the different mathematics pathways offered each year and which pathway is correct for them.
Mathematics tutoring was offered throughout this year across all year levels to help our students who need extra support with mathematics. This was done both at lunchtime and after school. Casual drop-in sessions were included this semester to encourage students to access tutoring support when needed.
Good luck to all the students doing their exams this term and to our Year 12 students who are now eagerly waiting for their results.
