Australian Champion

Congratulations to Holly Williams (Year 9) on her team’s success in the recent All Schools National Touch Football titles, played in Wagga during Week 4 of the term. Holly played for the NSW 15s Girls side that defeated Queensland in the Grand Final, winning 7 – 5. Holly scored the first try for NSW in the Grand Final and although NSW were 4 -1 up at half time, the game was hard, fast and very evenly contested. NSW had defeated all competing states during the round games and semi-final but came up against a more determined Queensland team in the Grand Final. The NSW girls defended well in the final minutes of the game, finishing with a two try buffer. Holly was also named in the Australian Merit team which is an outstanding achievement.

Game results are listed below

  • Round 1: NSW 22 – SA 1
  • Round 2: NSW 6 - Qld 2
  • Round 3: NSW 15 - ACT 2
  • Round 4: NSW 16- WA 2
  • Round 5: NSW 19- Victoria 0
  • Semi-final: NSW 18- WA 0
  • Grand Final NSW 7 – Qld 5

State Cup Netball

On Wednesday 2nd November, our Year 9/10 netball team competed at the Netball NSW All Schools State Cup at Netball Central in Olympic Park. There were 8 teams from across NSW competing for the state crown. First up we played St Mary Star of the Sea College from the South Coast. After an even start in the first half, the team from Illawarra proved too strong winning by 10 goals. Next we faced McCarthy Catholic College Tamworth from the Northern Inland region. This was a close game but unfortunately we were defeated 17 to 14. We then played against the prestigious Westfield Sports High School. Westfield dominated the game and went on to be crowned the State Champions. Our final game was against St Mathew's Catholic School Mudgee from the Central West region in the 7th/8th playoff. The first half was goal for goal however our girls lifted in the last half and won the game by 4 goals. Our girls displayed great sportsmanship and enjoyed the experience of playing against quality opposition from all over NSW. A big thank you to Miss Langtry who was our team manager and drove the bus for us.

Foster Cup Tennis

After two rain delayed starts the Kildare tennis team finally got to compete in the Foster Cup on Friday 4th November. We have not participated in this competition since 2013, so it was exciting to be back.

The Foster Cup is a competition involving other Wagga schools, and this year the other teams competing were Mater Dei, Wagga High, Kooringal High and the Christian College. We were seeded fifth because we haven’t played for a while and were allocated to pool 2. Each round consisted of two girls’ singles, two boys’ singles, girls’ doubles, boys’ doubles and 2 mixed doubles. Along with Kooringal High we were the only school that ended up playing three rounds, so that was a lot of tennis!

Thank you to our wonderful players who represented the College proudly. The Middleton boys, Albert and Ewan, got us off to a good start in our first round against Kooringal High, who finished third last year. They won both their singles, then convincingly won their doubles 8-0. We went on to defeat Kooringal overall 31 games to 25, with our girls Milli Thomas and Brooke Graham gaining in confidence and losing their doubles in a tight contest 3-5.

This meant that we then had to play number 1 seeds Mater Dei in our second round. Albert and Ewan again tasted success in doubles winning 5-3 and Albert managed a 3-3 draw in his singles match. We played our youngest players, Abbie Clark and Charlie Malone, in mixed doubles with a more experienced player and though these matches were close we ultimately went down to Mater Dei who went on to become the ultimate winners.

That left us with a third round of matches against Kooringal High to play off for fourth and fifth. We decided to give our young players more experience and both tasted success, with Abbie winning her singles match 5-1 and she and Charlie pairing to win the mixed doubles 5-3.

Many thanks to all players for volunteering to play. You demonstrated wonderful Kildare spirit and represented yourselves and the College beautifully. We look forward to continue growing in strength with this young team over the next few years.

Girls & Boys

Rugby Union played

17th November.

Congratulations to both Boys and Girls Rugby Union Teams on making it to the Ramsays Cup Super 6's Grand Final. The Boys started on fire by scoring the first try and played valiantly, but were overpowered by a very slick opposition in Kooringal High School.

Big Congratulations to the girls' team who played one of their best games of the competition to beat Wagga High in their Grand Final 29-14. Kate Wallace scored her first 2 ever tries, with another 2 tries to Holly Williams and one to Shayla as a result of a huge tackle from Zoe. Shayla Watson, Ava Atkinson, Lily Nimmo, Zoe McQueen, Grace Heffernan, Montana Hathaway, Lily Beavan,  Annabel Willis, Kate, and Holly tackled like there was no tomorrow (not giving Wagga High many chances to get through), and Charlie Clout was awesome in the lineouts.

Also Congratulations to Abbey Nitschke who won the Player of the Series.
