Careers Update

Can you help?

Dear EMC Community Members,

EMC has over 500 students in Senior School who are undertaking a VET course in 2023, which is an exciting pathway option for VCE Tertiary Pathway and Vocational Major students. Unfortunately one of our VET Electrical and Plumbing Certificate providers has recently informed us their trainers have returned to industry, and we have many students interested in an electrical career who may not be able to study this VET course in 2023.

We are urgently seeking businesses in the electrical and plumbing field who may be interested in taking on EMC Senior School (Years 10, 11, and 12) students as a school based apprentice.

School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT) are an excellent opportunity for both students and employers, funded by State and Federal Government with wage subsidies and many other benefits. The main benefit to the employer is a reliable EMC student working with them two days per week for one, two, or three years, with a view to more days work during holidays, and a long term full-time apprentice when the student has completed their schooling.

If you would like to know more about SBATs please contact Deb White in the EMC Careers Team on 9788 2600, or Debra.White@education.vic.gov.au .

We are particularly interested in electrical at present, however any businesses or trades interested in students undertaking an SBAT, Traineeship, Structured Workplace Learning (one day per week, Year 11 or Year 12 student), or Work Experience (5 to 20 days, Year 9 or 10 student aged 15) are most welcome to enquire with Deb. We currently have students in school based apprenticeships and traineeships in a wide range of vocations, including Real Estate, Retail, Business Administration, Landscaping, and the traditional trades.

We appreciate you sharing this information with any friends or family you know who may be interested. Thank you for your consideration of our wonderful Senior School students.

Regards,

Laura Spence

What do you think?

Dear parent/guardian,

We are seeking both you and your child’s participation in a short online survey about careers education at our school. This is an opportunity to provide feedback to help improve future career education at our school. As it is the final year such research is being conducted, your participation is strongly encouraged.

This research is being undertaken by Urbis, an independent research consultancy who have appointed by the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

  • For your child: We’ll need your consent for your child to participate in the survey. Please read and sign the information and consent form by clicking here.
  • For you: Complete your parent/guardian survey by clicking here.

The survey will take around 10 minutes of your time. Your participation in the survey is voluntary. You do not have to participate if you don’t want to, and you can stop the survey at any time if you change your mind.

You will not be able to save your responses as you go, so please leave your browser window open if you cannot complete the survey in one sitting. The survey will be open until 14 November 2022

A big thank you to all of our wonderful 2022 Year 10 students, their families and the community for all of the effort that went into securing the amazing rage of work experience placements undertaken this year. From the police force to naval bases, childcare centres, physiotherapists, air museums, music studios, trades, lawyers and many more. EMC could not be more proud of the way in which we were represented.
