Assistant Principal

Year 7 & 8

The end of the year is rapidly approaching with the school year coming to a conclusion. Last week we had a visit from the Innovation Youth Centre (IYC) team who conducted their roadshow event at the college. The Innovation Youth Centre is a young people’s organisation that works to create the best outcomes for young people community, by using innovation and youth participation, working hand in hand. IYC supports young people to address life challenges including social disadvantage, homelessness, unemployment, leaving school, mental health, family and social relationships, crime, substance use, school disengagement and disability. They are located at 1/20 Graduate Road, Bundoora. Please see the images below or go to the website to check out the centre (https://www.iyc.org.au/).

Orientation days are occurring across the next few weeks with our Year 7 Pre-Orientation Day Friday the 9th of December and Statewide Orientation Day on Tuesday the 13th. It will be fantastic to see all of our new students engaging in our end of year activities program, creating new connections, and getting familiar with the school.

The Lalor Secondary End of Year Program begins on Monday the 5th of December. The End of Year Program is provided to our students in year 7 to 9 as an alternative to the regular teaching and learning program. Students are engaged in a variety of activities and experiences to see them to the end of the year and celebrate their achievements across the year.

Students end of year reports are being finalized and will be available to view for parents and students very soon. Please keep an eye out on compass for this. The reports are a great opportunity for families to reflect on their child’s progress, celebrate successes and look to set goals for 2023. I would encourage all to take the opportunity before the year is out to view and reflect upon them.

As this is the last newsletter report for the year, I would love to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank all those that have been a part of the junior schools’ efforts and success in 2022. Thank you to the teaching staff who have worked tirelessly to support the students, thank you to the educational support staff for their continual support in and around the school, thank you to the office staff for all your hard work behind the scenes, thank you to the wellbeing team for being a wonderful place for student outreach. And finally thank you to the junior school student management team, every day seems to create a new and interesting journey that you all tackle head on and with great care for the students and smile on your faces. So to all, THANK YOU 😊
