Year 7 Japanese Totoro Rice Ball & Teriyaki Chicken Making

After students completed the Japanese PBL (My Neighbour Totoro), the Year 7A, 7B, 7C and 7D Japanese class had a Japanese cooking session, making Totoro rice ball and teriyaki chicken. Students got into pairs at each station, working collaboratively to make each dish.

In Japan, “Kyaraben” (abbreviated term for “character bento”), have gained popularity. Kyaraben are bento box lunches that are made to resemble characters from anime, manga, games and more. This time, students made Totoro rice ball with rice, seaweed, cheese, and black sesame. I hope students enjoyed this unique Japanese food making experience!
