Presentation Evening
A HUGE congratulations to our 2022 awardees (listed below) who were presented with their awards at our annual Presentation Evening on Thursday 8 December. A wonderful celebration of another fantastic year at BSC! The Principal's Address can also be found below.
Principal's Address
An exciting evening for all of our amazing award winners and the combined effort of the House trophy winner.
The focus for the start of 2022 was reconnecting to our culture and our community as a whole. We underpinned this with the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child.
Former Chief of the Defence Force Lt General Angus Cambell put it best when he said:
“Every yesterday could have been better - every tomorrow holds great prospect. I try to make today count.”
Looking back across 2022 there were certainly times it could have been better. We started the year with countless Covid protocols still in place. We continued to hope that with each passing month the pandemic would ease. This was certainly a challenge as wave after wave impacted students and staff throughout the community during the cold winter months. Our approach kept the focus on making each day at school count. The countless learning experiences and opportunities to grow as a learner were showcased in every newsletter. Every day was an opportunity for students to demonstrate our CORE values. We have all reflected on the past year and rebalanced to make “today count”.
The “we” of our village comes from our strong connection to culture.
Our village is the sum of all we value.
Every one of us influences the village.
Every one of us makes a difference
Every one of us has an impact.
Our families are the grounding- that belonging is not just about place. The forming of authentic bonds that drive our collective approach in our village. The village relies on many people to make Beaumaris the vibrant hub of learning.
- We look out for each other.
- We share the responsibility of care for our students with their parents
- Our village green is the amazing grounds we share with the MCC. A village needs active and healthy young people. We value this partnership with the MCC and hold it in high esteem. We know that it will continue to develop programs that will draw our village and the MCC together.
- Our village is unique as we are surrounded by so many natural treasures that form part of the learning.
- Our village is a hub of the community for sport, local clubs and events that reach beyond our students and parents. Our local members of Rotary and members of Parliament here this evening further support to the village we have created.
- Our village now has a collective memory that started well before the school was built. This movement was led by Clarke Martin and Steve Pearce. They advocated for our village to become a reality. We are proud to say that this village in 2023 will be nearly 1000 students strong!
Our village has come together to celebrate the success of students across a whole year.
- Our students are redefining success with every award because they recognise that success is not a destination. This will be the first of many more celebrations that our village will share over the coming years to recognise their contributions.
- Their curiosity was encouraged, developed and sustained.
- Your children have demonstrated their commitment, persistence and passion, which were acknowledged and rewarded this evening.
- Well done to all award winners and join me again in acknowledging their outstanding efforts for 2022!
I am most proud of the village we have created together- acknowledging the immense effort, talent and commitment that every staff member brings to our school each and every day. The outstanding work our teaching team has focussed on to bring 31 VCE studies to students with our first Year 12 in 2023 is an awesome achievement.
Victor Hugo wrote “There is in every village a torch-the teacher”. I would add that this includes all school staff. Our village torches foster confidence in every student so they are optimistic for “the great prospects tomorrow holds".
We ensure:
- Belonging in a safe and healthy environment that provides young people with an exceptional education.
We ensure:
- Students have the belief that their commitment to learning will allow them to flourish.
We ensure:
- Students become empowered to realise their hopes and dreams.
Thank you to our Beaumaris Secondary College teachers and education support team for your relentless commitment to our students throughout the year and bringing the vision of excellence in education to life in our village.
Every village needs leaders and ours can be found through the student leaders at the college. Our school captains, year level captains and student leadership team of learning team leaders, ICT Champions, Student Wellbeing Action Group, Youth Crime Prevention and GOAL leaders. They demonstrated strong leadership, perseverance and flexibility in every situation that arose. They are wonderful ambassadors to the college. I would like to thank them for their commitment this year and encourage them to continue be leaders into 2023.
Our fantastic leadership team at the college with 3 wonderful APs, Business Manager/Heads of Houses and Curriculum leaders provide synergy in our village. I would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful Peter Bartlett once again for organising this fantastic night and creating a village experience like no other where we can celebrate here at the college. Thank you so much Peter!
Thank you to Parents' Association for bringing the village together with fantastic events throughout the year. We look forward to the Twilight Festival on March 17 2023 - mark that in your calendar.
Thank you to school council led by Steve Pearce for their support and guidance and advocating for Stage 2as which we have filled with joyous learning since completion at the start of this year. We know that our village is greater with our showcase school at its centre.
Thank you to all the parents who are our partners in developing children in our village. This school community is a wonderful source of support. We work to bring out the best in each other and hope that our students send ripples of positivity through our village.
Lastly, thank you to the students - you are the proof that to learn is to grow - that our core values make a difference and that you are becoming your best selves on the journey.
I wish you all a relaxing and peaceful holiday season and look forward to continuing to grow our village in 2023. Thank you.
