Principal's Report
Dear Parents,
Welcome Back
I hope you have all had a restful and rejuvenating summer break. We were excited to welcome all the students back yesterday. The vibe around the school was positive and the new preps settled in well and had a great day.
Summer Improvements
Over the Summer break we continued to make improvements to the building and grounds with the ceiling in the front office fixed, as well as safety improvement to the playground equipment. The shade sails in front of Room 10 and 11 and covering the basketball grandstand have been started and are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Staff Professional Learning
Before the students started back, we had two days of Professional Learning with staff. We spent the time meeting our newest team members, Anne Eames – classroom integration aide, Salina Chamerski – front office administration, Georgia Pitt – Year 5/6 teacher and Bronwyn McLeod – Year 3/4 teacher. We developed some strong team goals and started unpacking the strategic direction for the school in 2023.
This year we will be having another strong focus on improving the teaching and learning in Literacy and Numeracy, as well as developing opportunities in our classrooms for incorporating student voice in the learning process. We plan to continue to build on our inclusive processes to support all our students and in particular our students with disabilities. There will be a continued focus on improving the wellbeing outcomes for our students.
We completed some further training on the Kimochis social and emotional teaching program. Kimochis is an evidence-based program that supports children to learn how to identify their emotions and then go on to manage their emotions. These are the skills that support people of all ages to be successful and engaged citizens.
There is a little more information here about the program.
School Council – Notice of Election
We are holding an election to fill the vacant positions on the school council for 2023/2024. There are four parent positions that will be vacated by the end of February. The school council is an important opportunity for parents and staff to become involved in the governance and support for the school. The school council oversees the financial, facilities and programs such as the before and after school care, the Macedon PS pine plantation and the Farmers’ market. The school council also supports the school to operate with strong governance and transparency. There is no special prior knowledge or experience required for parents to be on school council and we encourage you to consider this option if you are interested. If you would like further information please contact me. I am happy to answer any questions you have. All of our meetings are open meetings, and we invite you to attend if you are interested is seeing how they run before you decide to nominate.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 15th of February. Please email me for the details.
The school council membership term is two years. Below is a timeline of the election process.
If you would like to nominate someone, or self-nominate, please fill in and submit your form to the front office by 4pm on Friday 17 February. You can find the forms at the front office.
