English Department News

Welcome to ECP and to the beginning of another engaging and exciting academic year in English.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly appointed Head of English. The past week has been one of finding my feet at Girton, after moving from Queensland to begin this position. The English Faculty offers so many transformational and invigorating opportunities for students to experience their own success, and I look forward to working collaboratively with the English team to ensure these opportunities are enhanced and refined for a well-rounded learning journey.
The first units of work, which students are studying across year levels ensure a connection to a variety of texts and offer assessments that can enhance students’ experiences in their own world.
Current units of study in English:
Year 8: Autobiography study – Archie Roach’s Tell Me Why
Year 9: The Truman Show study
Year 10 English: Film study – On the Basis of Sex
Year 10 Literature: From Realism to Rebellion – poetry study
English 1/2: Novel study – Station Eleven
English 3/4: False Claims of Colonial Thieves study
Literature 1/2: Modernist poetry study
Literature 3/4: Emily Dickinson, Selected Poems
English Language 1/2: Functions of language and subsystems
English Language 3/4: Formal and Informal language
I hope your student finds the unit of work they are studying to be engaging and can develop deep connections with the texts they will be immersed in.
Mr Troy Edwards
