World Challenge Expedition: Nepal 2024

After several successful student leadership expeditions over the last 16 years – Girton Grammar School are delighted to announce that we are launching another very exciting program which offers students the opportunity to plan, fund and ultimately lead their own 21-day long expedition to Nepal in late June/July 2024. Hence expressions of interest are sought from current Year 7, 8 or 9 students (2022).

The expedition has a focus on community work in the developing world where they will work alongside a local community and undertake sustainable and meaningful projects.

World Challenge is unique; students have a chance to CHALLENGE themselves and lead the expedition team to a developing world country that will see them develop real life skills prized by universities and employers alike, such as forward planning, communication, leadership and running effective group meetings. The students will also partake in a challenging trek and immerse themselves within a local community where they will have chance to understand some of the issues facing parts of our world. Not only is World Challenge a chance to travel throughout some developing countries and see how lucky we are to live in Australia, but the fact also that students LEAD the team, ensures they develop real-world leadership and communication skills that will be useful in every aspect of adulthood whether they go straight into the workforce or further study.

Over the three weeks journey the team(s) will experience each of the following phases:

Acclimatization: Cultural experiences, sight-seeing, historical & religious significance etc.

Community Service/Project: Spending 4 to 5 days in a remote community undertaking varied work.

Expedition/Hike: A 4-to-5-day hike/physical challenge, much like Year 8 Falls Creek Hike run here at GGS.

Rest and Relaxation: Shopping and more sight-seeing with some sleep in’s.
