Deputy Principal's Message

Thank you to all students and families for your support and engagement in your child's education over the year. We look forward to celebrating the year during the many events scheduled this week. I would like to wish all families and staff a relaxing, safe and happy holiday break and look forward to welcoming all the new and old faces to Ben Venue in 2023.

2022 Student Representative Council

The SRC had their last meeting of 2022 last Friday to participate in their final opportunity of the year to share the ideas of their class and put forward some ideas to start working on in 2023. We would like to thank all SRC representatives for the work they have done in representing their class and providing a voice for our students.

Please see the SRC student report below for an overview of the many achievements the SRC has accomplished this year. Thank you to Maggie Gray and Hazel Fittler for completing the report on behalf of the students.

SRC Report 2022

by Maggie Gray and Hazel Fittler

This year, Ben Venue started an SRC, which stands for Student Representative Council. We have accomplished many things and are bringing even more items and ideas to our school in 2023.

One of the many projects we have achieved this year is a new school bell with music and chimes. This idea was brought to the SRC by Mrs Howlett, Mr Pryce and the teachers and was something we really supported. We have also bought new basketball and netball hoops after many classes suggested we get new ones. We had a hot chocolate fundraiser for the Lismore floods which raised $862.05 and the Loud Shirt Day fundraiser for the NextSense organisation which raised $541. For more information about the NextSense organisation, visit https://www.nextsense.org.au/

A big project that was important to the SRC was to improve the toilets. We have made some action on improving the 3-6 bathrooms and there are some ideas that are on the way for 2023. One of the things that we have done for the bathrooms is to install new, locking doors that do not become stuck and can close properly. Some of the other things that are coming are paper towel dispensers and timer taps to help us to wash and dry our hands properly.

Students asked for more sports equipment, which we organised and have also investigated the possibility of installing a water bottle refill station in 2023. The new student shirts that were designed during NAIDOC Week will be available to buy next year as well. We are still interested in getting the canteen running again and we hope we can find someone to run the canteen next year.

We're looking forward to the major changes our SRC have planned for next year to make our school even greater and to enhance the learning of students. It has been a wonderful experience to be on the SRC and we encourage students to put their hand up to be a part of next year's SRC.
