Music Program

Announcing new Choir Conductor for 2023.

We are all sad to see our wonderful Choir Conductor, Emily Bennett, leave CNPS at the end of the year. Emily has been with us for a few years, and recently during a couple of quite unusual years. Her expertise in conducting choir has been a true pleasure to witness a various performances. Emily was also able to excel with online choir and providing audio resources to choir, she is amazing. Lots of students have had lots of fun in choir during her time. We wish her well in all her future endeavours, especially in completing her Masters of Teaching next year.

And now, something about our new conductor, welcoming Ella Thompson.

Music has been Ella’s lifeblood for a long time. She was already making a name for her herself at just 16, over her vast career Ella has toured internationally and extensively around Australia performing as a solo artist and with her bands GL and Dorsal Fins.

Ella is a passionate educator. She enjoys working with music students across all ages and abilities fostering creative curiosity and individuality. Ella is an associate lecturer at Monash University at The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance. She also teaches at schools such as Preshil and Carlton Gardens primary school. Ella lives in Carlton and teaches voice and piano from her studio.

If you don’t know about the program yet, please read the following information to wet your appetite!

General Information

The Instrumental Music Program aims to help parents provide their children with an opportunity to learn a musical instrument within the school community.

The program offers INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS on a range of instruments with qualified and experienced instrumental music tutors.

The program also offers SCHOOL MUSIC GROUPS that are designed to complement the instruments offered by the Instrumental Music Program with qualified and experienced music conductors.

The success of this program is the result of collaboration between instrumental music tutors, school music group conductors, the music administrator, and with the support of classroom teachers and school administration.

Learning a musical instrument consolidates students' learning and promotes the development of important aspects of personal management including: self-confidence, executive brain function, memory, social skills, team building and wellbeing. Please see the following 4.5 minute TED-Ed by Dr Anita Collins showing how playing music makes “fireworks go off all over your brain”.
