Assistant Principal's Report

By Roland Lewis

On Tuesday, our students and teachers (current and new) experienced a day in their 2023 classes.  While the day is a lot of fun and we get to mingle with our classmates and teachers for the day, there is a deeper purpose – connections.

2023 day is part of our transition strategy.  The purpose is simple but highly effective, to build connections;

Student to student

Student to environment

Student to teacher

Teacher to teacher

When people understand and feel connected to their space and the people they will share it with, uncertainty is replaced with predictability.  Predictability brings a sense of safety and feeling safe and connected at school sets the foundation for improved learning outcomes.

This year the learning throughout 2023 day was inspired by Student Voice.  A random selection of students was surveyed about what they thought the purpose of 2023 day was and how they think that purpose could be achieved for everyone.  With a strong message of friendship, questioning and getting to know new peers and teachers, we designed learning programs to both build the connections we aim to foster, while also meeting the needs identified by our amazing and thoughtful learners.

We trust your children enjoyed the day and, even more importantly, feel a sense of connectedness to their 2023 class, peers and teacher.

Happy new year to everyone.  Merry Christmas to those that celebrate it.  I look forward to seeing you all in the new year – ready to deepen connections and make 2023 another fabulous year of learning.
