Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

This term we are continuing to imbed Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) with the students and school community.

PBL is a framework that we are using to teach the children about expected behaviours in different parts of the school.

The children will have a weekly social skills lesson on a Monday identifying a specific social skill we would like the children to learn and practice around our school expectations of

RESPECT

RESPONSIBILITY and

KINDNESS

This week we have continued to focus on the value of kindness, particularly what this looks like outside on the playground. The children have practiced what words they should use to show kindness to each other in the different areas of the playground.

Action for Happiness

It is hard to believe that we have reached the month of December! What a whirlwind this year has been. For December, Action for happiness is encouraging us to do good deeds for others. This fits in beautifully with the Season of Advent. Check out this calendar for ideas on how you can do this.

Connected Parenting

The following excerpt is taken from the Connected Parenting resource from the Australian Childhood Foundation. It is all about enjoying your children. For more information visit www.bringingupgreatkids.com.au

Enjoy your child

“Take some time each day to laugh, cry, play, dream, wonder and explore with your child. As a parent you probably spend much of your time trying to be a good parent, doing whatever you can for your child whilst balancing the needs and demands of a busy life. Increasingly you might be feeling more like a manager - managing a household, managing time, managing a job and managing children’s behaviour.

So often, today, we hear about the costs of having children. These are usually described as economic, social or career costs. We hear talk of the sacrifices made by adults in their lives as a result of having children. It is sometimes easy to lose sight of what is important. In the middle of life’s busy pace, take the time out to reflect on the ways your child contributes to your life rather than on what else you can do for your child.

Children enrich our lives in so many ways - children give parents:

• Unconditional love and admiration just for being you

• Trust that you are the strongest, wisest and bravest person in the world

• The chance to be a hero

• The chance to be a child again through sharing in the magic and wonder of their emerging world

 • The chance to experience an intensity of emotion and range of strengths and skills that may otherwise have remained hidden from you

• The chance to reflect on your own values, attitudes and assumptions about the world

• The chance to re-experience the joy and pleasure to be found in children’s play

• The chance to share in their fun and their laughter

• The chance to revisit your own childhood

 • The chance to take time out from being a grown up”
