Daniel Andrews visits Ormond

On Wednesday 16th of October, Mr Daniel Andrews visited Ormond Primary School. He took a tour of the school and spoke to some Year 6 students about federation. Then he addressed the Year 5’s in the hall about leadership qualities. He also talked about himself being the leader of the Victorian Labour Party. It was a great experience having him visit us and we wish him all the best for the future.

Prep Soiree

This year the Prep Soiree theme is 'Music Throughout the Decades'.  It will be held on Wednesday the 30th of October and parents are invited to join us in the school hall beginning at 6:30pm. The children have been working very hard to learn their songs and dance routines and are looking forward to performing them on the night!

Year 5 Metamorph Incursion

On Thursday the 10th of October, the Year 5 students participated in an incursion with a man called Michael from a place called Metamorph. We participated in four activities to develop leadership skills, the first one was called planks where you were in a group of people and had to move around the basketball court only on the planks by lifting and passing the last plank up to the front to be placed.

The next activity was called build a tower where in groups we had to build the highest and most stable tower out of mega blocks in the shortest time possible. After a few attempts it was clear that everyone had used the strategy of teamwork to build their towers to the highest standard.

After a break for recess we came back to complete two more activities the first one was called magic boots.  A big section of the hall could only be crossed by wearing massive sized boots. Once you got to the other side of the hall once again build the highest most stable tower.

The final activity was called marble run were we each got a piece of wooden channel and had to make a line and try to get ourselves and two  marbles to the other side of the hall. If you had the marbles in your piece of channel you could not move your feet and if you dropped the marbles you had to go back to the start and try again, but the hardest part of this task was that two of your team members were blindfolded. We had to speak to the blindfolded people to get them to move and place their channel in a certain position.

Overall this whole activity was a blast and everyone developed much better leadership skills, all these activities were very beneficial for everyone in Year 5 in areas such as team building, teamwork, confidence, persistence but most importantly everyone built these skills whilst having fun.

We would to say a big thanks to Michael for coming to Ormond and for helping with all these aspects we mentioned above.
