The Team

Year 7 & 8 Eureka Basketball Competition

On Wednesday our year 7/8 boys went out and competed at the Eureka Basketball competition. The boys had been completing training sessions over the past few weeks and were ready to represent the school.

First up in the morning we had a tough game against a very strong Ballarat High outfit who came out firing and got out to a strong lead. After regathering our game plan, the boys were able to compete and put some points on the board through some great midrange shooting from Jack Fiddaman. In the end, the boys couldn’t bring back the lead and went down in their first game.

Game two we came up against Daylesford Secondary, coming off their first game the boys came out with the same intensity and were able to get out to a strong lead through some quick, fast breaks from Tom Leech and great rebounding from Emmanuel Butler and Esdras Assimadi. With the lead the boys played some lockdown defence, with some great pressure coming from Alex Bennetts, Mac Crawford and all the boys to maintain the lead and come out with a great team win.

With this win, it put us through to the semi-finals where we came up against Phoenix College who started really strong and got out to a good lead. Our boys pushed through though and through some great defence were able to bring the lead down to 8 points at half time. After the half time, we missed a few vital points and couldn’t close the gap, going down narrowly in a well fought out game.

Overall the team played really well together and were able to really show some great team basketball throughout the days play and should be proud of the outcome we achieved.
