Happy Easter

On Sunday it was Orthodox Easter, or what the Macedonians call it, Veligden.

Every year on Macedonian Easter, we honor Jesus' resurrection. To celebrate this, the whole Macedonian class got together to crack eggs, and make something that we like to call, Kozinak. Kozinak means, Sweet Bread, and it's optional to mix in raisins or sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.

The egg battle determines the person whose egg was strongest and did not break while smashing heads with other eggs. It's very rare for me to win, but somehow this year, I got lucky, and my egg was the champion! All up until I dropped it on the floor, and a million tiny cracks spread across of it. What a shame.

With my partner, Selina, we braided our bread, and let it sit out on the table for around 20 minutes to let it properly rise, and become nice and fluffy.

Then we placed them in the oven at 160 o c, and let it bake for approximately 25 minutes. When we took them out, the smell was b-e-a-utiful! I felt like digging in, and eating it all up, not leaving a single crumb. However, I have to be honest here, Ms.Popovska's bread was the best made, and tasted the best too! There is no doubt about it.

I can't wait to tell my parents the adventure we had today at school, and I'm going to try saving over some kozinak for home, but somehow, I don't think that's possible! This was my school Easter experience, and it’s definitely one I’m going to remember.
