MERCY CAMPUS NEWS

MERCY CAMPUS GREEN AREA
It may only be week five, but here at Mercy we have had so much going on already! The most exciting thing would have to be that we now have a stretch of green grass. I am so excited to see the progress. It is looking great and is going to be a really good space for the students.
YEAR 8 MERCY WORKS
Students in Mercy Works classes have been very busy getting out and about and helping in the community. Here is what a group of girls had to say about their recent contributions to the Clean Up Australia activity:
Clean Up Australia!!!
During Mercy Works we did Clean Up Australia, Eco Village, Botanical Gardens, Jack and Jill Kindergarten, Guest Speakers and Team Building Activities. We enjoyed Clean up Australia the most! So that will be the main focus of the report.
WHAT?
Clean Up Australia is when you go on a long walk and pick up any rubbish lying around to help save the environment and help the wildlife that live in the area.
WHO + WHEN?
On 20 July and the 26th of July, Ms Duscher’s Year 8 Mercy Works Class participated in the Clean Up Australia Program.
WHERE?
We went down to the Mildura Riverfront, around the Aerodrome Ovals, and near the Park for Play. When walking around the oval and park, we picked up a lot of rubbish, including cans, clothing and over 100 cigarette butts right near the park. At the riverfront, there were a couple of rusted trolleys and bikes left around from the floods along with lots of paper and plastic rubbish.
WHY?
Why do we do Clean Up Australia? We do this for a better future, to keep our city clean, and to help the wildlife so their habitats do not get destroyed and for their health. We all had a fun time walking around with friends while picking up rubbish.

STUDENT SUPERVISION BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
Please be aware that teaching staff are rostered on to supervise students at the Mercy campus from 8:30am up until 4:00pm. If students are not picked up by families until after 4:00pm, the students will be waiting inside the campus foyer. Please be aware that the office closes at 4:30pm and all students need to be collected before this time.
STUDENT DROP-OFF
I encourage families to use the drive through pick-up and drop-off area within the college grounds before and after school. Traffic on Riverside Avenue and Eleventh Street is becoming increasingly busy, and the safety of our young people concerns me greatly.
Please do not park opposite the college on Riverside Avenue and make your young person cross the road to meet you.
Instead, enter the college grounds from Eleventh Street, park in the ample parking area at the back of the college, and exit via Riverside Avenue. This is a much safer procedure for our students.
