Breaking news for all parents! The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) has introduced a new set of proficiency levels for 2023. These levels are designed to understand better your child's performance and progress in key subject areas. The new proficiency levels offer a more detailed and nuanced assessment, allowing for better identification of your child's strengths and areas for improvement.

Proficiency standards

The NAPLAN proficiency standards include 4 proficiency levels for each assessment area at each year level:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Introducing these new proficiency levels aims to provide a more accurate and informative assessment of your child's academic abilities. It allows for a more nuanced understanding of their progress and helps educators tailor their teaching strategies to meet individual needs.

Stay tuned for further updates on implementing the 2023 NAPLAN assessment and the release of results based on these new proficiency levels.

The 2023 Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN results will be sent out shortl. An email from the class teacher will notify parents and carers that their child has been given the report in a sealed envelope.  Examples of what this report looks like for Years 3 and 5 students have are attached below. If your child is one of the 2023 cohorts that will receive a report, please remember that the test results are just a snapshot of an assessment in March.

Don't hesitate to contact your class teacher if you have any concerns with the report. For more information, please read the attached  PDF of individual student reports for parents and carers or watch the link: Reading the NAPLAN individual results.
