Reading
In Term 3, our foundation students will continue to develop their reading skills. We will continue to focus on exploring unknown vocabulary, helping students expand their word knowledge. Additionally, fluency readings will be practiced to improve students' ability to read smoothly and at a steady pace, without long pauses. We will also delve into Text Structures and Features, where we will explore different genres, both fiction and non-fiction, and discuss their purpose and intended audience. Comprehension skills will be honed, with a specific emphasis on determining Importance and literal Questioning.
Writing
The genre for writing in Term 3 will be "to inform." Students will have the opportunity to lead the class in choosing topics they are interested in and will then create instructional pieces about those topics. They will work towards individual writing goals and utilize the "bump it up" wall to improve their writing skills. As a culmination of their efforts, their final pieces will be published on Book Creator and printed as a book. Furthermore, students will focus on using lines to write and practice correct directionality (left to right, top to bottom), as well as proper uppercase and lowercase letter formation.
Maths
In Mathematics, we have an exciting range of topics to explore in Term 3. Students will delve into the concept of mass and learn to compare the weight of different items. They will develop additive thinking skills, which will enable them to solve simple addition and subtraction problems. We will also explore 3D objects and their features, helping students understand spatial concepts. To build their statistical and probabilistic thinking, we will engage in activities involving yes/no, true/false questions and data displays.
Inquiry
Geography - Our geography focus for this term is "Adventure Land!" We will embark on a journey to explore amazing places and exciting features, with a particular emphasis on local areas. Key questions will guide our exploration, such as: What defines a place? What makes a place special? How do Aboriginal Dreaming Stories or Torres Strait Legends recount different places? We will also investigate local places that hold significance for Aboriginal Torres Straight Island peoples and explore the reasons behind their importance.
Technologies - Digital Technologies: Our digital adventures will take us into the world of Digital Systems. Students will investigate how technologies are used in everyday life. We will discuss the importance of following steps to achieve a goal and explore how digital technologies can be programmed to follow a sequence of steps. Additionally, we will address the crucial topic of cyber safety, ensuring students understand its significance in today's digital age.
Extra Celebrations: Term 3 will also be filled with exciting celebrations at Kismet Park Primary School. We have our School Production, where students will showcase their talents. Additionally, we will celebrate 100 days at school, marking a significant milestone in our students' educational journey.
We look forward to a fantastic Term 3, where our foundation students will continue to grow, learn, and explore new horizons.
Visual Arts
This term in Visual Arts, Prep students will continue to explore collage using recycled materials such as fabric, old cards and wrapping paper. They will learn about printmaking, including folding over prints, handprints and stamp printing.
Students will also explore paper construction as cylinders and other simple 3D shapes.
They will learn to identify and describe the subject matter and ideas in artworks they make and view.
Performing Arts
Production! Production! Production! This term all students, in all year levels will be spending Performing Arts classes rehearsing for our upcoming whole school production 'Kismet in Story Land'. Students will be rehearsing two separate dances, as well as the retelling of their cohorts' chosen story. Students will be exploring creative and expressive dramatic skills during their scene, as well as enhancing their co-ordination and gross-motor skills when learning their stage entrances, exits and on-stage rotations. All students are encouraged to participate in rehearsals, regardless of whether they intend to perform on the night, as these are important skills in confidence and teamwork.
Japanese
This term in Japanese we are having a whole school focus on self introductions. The Prep students are learning how to say “Nice to meet you”, “My name is…” and “I am … years old”. On Tuesday 1st August, Kismet Park Primary School will be hosting some Japanese students for a day. These students are from Nagano High School, the sister school of Sunbury College. We hope that our students will get the opportunity to introduce themselves in Japanese to our visitors. Prep students will also be learning a Japanese song in Japanese classes for a special “Buddies” scene (with their Grade 6 Buddies) in the Kismet in Storyland whole school Production.
Physical Education
This term students will be given the opportunity to move their bodies in different ways through Gymnastics and Dance. Activities will be designed for students to show movement using strength, balance and flexibility. Students will be introduced to moving their bodies through dance. Activities include free movement as well as formal group dances.
