Ready, Steady, Go!
Yesterday the Year 1 and 2 Community were lucky enough to participate in an incursion presented by Life Education. In Term 3, the Year 1 and 2 Inquiry unit is Walking On Sunshine - What makes a happy and healthy Year 1/2 Community? and the Ready, Steady, Go! incursion was a perfect start to this unit.
Donna and Healthy Harold visited our school and led the children in activities covering healthy food. They learned about how exercise and healthy eating helps our bodies to stay healthy.
The students used a traffic light system to sort foods.
Green Light Food Choices
These are the best and healthiest choices and should be heavily encouraged. These foods should be available from all key food outlets for as much of the day as possible in schools, and actively promoted as healthier options.
Amber Light Food Choices
Choose carefully - these types of food should not dominate the menu at the expense of the healthier Green items and should be provided in small serving sizes.
Red Light Food Choices
Should only be eaten occasionally.
They also worked in groups to discuss food choices and create posters. The students enjoyed the incursion and are ready to continue with the learning in their classrooms.
